My hubby and I got married secretly without any of our families knowing. We had a big wedding months and months down the road ,but to this day no one else knows.

    My parents did the same thing!  My dad moved from England to the states to marry my mom, but they were having a problem with his visa.  Their lawyer told them it's easier to seek forgiveness than permission, so they just got married at the courthouse.

    My SIL did this except her sister came across the marriage license before the big wedding when doing some geneology research.  MIL was PISSED!

    DH and I did this the summer. To this day no one knows but our 2 best friends. Our big wedding was suppose to be this July but we used all of our money for DD and buying a house. We will have the big wedding in 2012. now. 

    We just couldn't wait that long Stick out tongue

    Funny you posted this. We are secretly getting married tomorrow (my due date at that)! My love picked up the marriage license today, and we go to the court house tomorrow for the rest of it. We'll still have a wedding at some point, but he really wants to be legally married before baby is born. Only my best friends will know about it.

    DH and I did the same thing except our families knew. We had to b/c of the Marine Corps but instead of just going to the court house we hired an officiant to marry us near a light house where we had gone on our first date. So the whole day was just as special as our "other" wedding. :)

    We hired an officiant to marry us as well at one of our favorite hiking spots. We felt we had to earlier than our planned wedding, mainly due to alot of medical problems I was going through and we figured it was best for us at the time to put me on his insurance. Although we had our other wedding date set and everything was still going through.

    We did the same thing! We were planning on getting married soon anyway, and if we got married before the end of the year it would make getting financial aid for college easier. Then of course we decided to "not try" to have a baby, and got pregnant so I didn't end up going back to college. 

     

    There are a few people who know, but we don't talk about it.

    Insurance was a big reason for us as well and me being able to move with him in-case he had to go before our big wedding. Also I ended up getting pregnant the next month so technically I was in the clear for our church wedding since we were married at time of conception lol

    My DH and I did the Same thing. I lost my insurance right after we got engaged, so we decided to courthouse it so I could be on his. We planned on having a bigger wedding later so we didn't tell anyone. Well a few months later I got pregnant. We ditched the wedding idea and just backtracked and told everyone we got married already. No one was too upset. My grandma was relieved that I wasn't pregnant out of wedlock :)
