Dollar Tree Pregnancy Tests

Hi Everyone!  I just wanted to get your opinion on these tests.  I've noticed some posts of women taking these tests and getting a negative result but then using another test and received a positive.  What has your experience been with these tests?  Have any of you had a similar experience?

Re: Dollar Tree Pregnancy Tests

  • I found them to be more sensitive than some of the brand-name ones, but I made sure to confirm with a digital as well.

  • When I got my BFP (11 DPO) I tested first with a Dollar Tree test to see if it was even worth taking a First Response or a digital. I definitely got a visible line but it was light. When I took the FRER it was a nice thick pink line (much more obvious than the Dollar Tree) and the digital said pregnant right away.

I recommend them, particularly if you're like me and you like to test (and test early!) but always have something to back it up. I find a lot of people get light lines on those when something else would come up darker. That being said, I had a big stash leftover so I take them periodically and from about 13 DPO I was getting very dark lines on them.

    Good luck!!

  • They are more sensitive than many other brands. See the peeonastick website.

    This.

Ladies always want to confirm with the Clear Blue digitals, but guess what? They publish a 25 iu sensitivity, but are really around 50. I got a positive Dollar store test and blood test at 8 dpo, but 3 negative digital tests (of various brands).

Also remember, that different tests from the same box can have different levels of sensitivity. A false positive is rare, as there has to be some amount of HCG in your urine to show even the faintest line. Trust our test no matter how much it cost.

  • In the past, I've had excellent luck with them catching pregnancy very early.

Right now, I'm cursing them to hell and beyond, because for three days I got the same faint greyish line that showed up on time but couldn't really be considered a positive.

The instant positives last night on FRER and a store brand laid the doubt and drama to rest - and the $tree I took with it?  Was negative.  So, yeah, I'm no longer a fan.  I would say spend a little more and buy a store brand if you are trying to save.  If you want conclusivity, just go straight for the First Response (imo).

The poas website is three years out of date.  Still quite useful, but I no longer rely on their recommendations (for heaven's sake, they still have the old ejectable style digitals listed, which haven't been manufactured for over two years).

You got a positive blood test and negative digitals, but in my last two pregnancies, my first betas were under 30 (30 and 25, respectively) and I had positive digitals (CBE) the day before the beta draws.

    Nothing is perfect.

You can only go by your own experience.  Mine is that FRER is the best, most accurate/sensitive test available with the lowest number of errors or false positives.

Oh, I am not by any means saying the digital ones suck and shouldn't be trusted.

I was just saying that it always seems that they are held VERY high. As if they can't be wrong because they have a word that is impossible to misinterpret. Just clarifying that they aren't always accurate - just as any other EPT.

Also, I know the site is out of date and some info is likely inaccurate. However, I also know that it is a great site to learn a thing or two about the way those suckers work, etc. (regardless of when it was written).

That is very, very true.  We definitely agree on that.  And you are absolutely correct that digitals can be as wrong as any other test.

And often more harsh, don't you think?  I had a digital but didn't want to take it before getting more conclusive result from the $tree test, because seeing Not Pregnant (or worse, imo, NO) is just extra disheartening.  Probably because they seem so infallible, as you point out.

  • With my first I got a positive on a Dollar Tree test at 12dpo.

With this one I got a positive at 11dpo.  With both I took a digital afterwards.

  • I used one for my bfp... I didn't bother with another test because I already had my bfp
  • I used the First Response 11DPO and it came back negative. I tried the Dollar Tree the next day and got a positive! I read that they are much more sensative too.
  • I took 4 of them.  All were negative.

On 11 dpo I took my last one with my morning pee. BFN. Later that afternoon I took a First Response.  BFP.

I was not impressed with the $Tree tests at all.
