Please help salvage today

I need an easy cake recipe that I can make for Kate's birthday.  I don't have powdered sugar to make frosting but my mom can bring me some later this afternoon. 

It's just been a super crappy day and I can't wade through recipes to find one...so a fool proof/easy/yummy cake recipe would be appreciated.

Not a cake, but I did applesauce cupcakes for DS's birthday (can search up the recipe if you want) and they were sooooo tasty and I could convince myself they were healthyish because of the organic applesauce.

I don't have any applesauce and I'm not in the mood for chocolate...I know that sounds odd but it really has been that bad of a day.

I have rhubarb so I would love to make a rhubarb layer cake...but I'm fried so I can't even find the right recipe.
