So, H and I went and test drove minivans over the weekend. I thought before we even went that I'd like the Odyssey better than the Sienna, and I did. But, man, the Toyota sales guy didn't do a whole lot to change my mind. I asked him what had been done to test the safety of the 2011 Siennas, given the redesign. He said, "Um, you know, I'm sure they do all kinds of tests." (OK, buddy, do you watch the news? People are going to be asking you questions about safety. Study or something, why don't you?)
So then he finds out we're having twins. And he says this (not to me, mind you, but directly to my husband): "Did you read about that Octagon Mom?" (Yes, that's actually what he said.) "That was weird, huh?"
OK, Toyota dude, goodbye.
Re: How not to sell a minivan
I just busted out laughing at "Octagon Mom". Yes, I agree with you....goodbye Toyota dude.
Hilarious.

Cut the Crap - Weight loss journey of a Few Fat Chicks
We just recently, like the last 2 weeks, traded in my DH's Civic on an Odyssey and absolutely LOVE it. We were able to take home a Pilot overnight (from the lease company my DH's family has been leasing from for eons), and while I loved the Pilot, it just didn't have the storage room we needed for the twins AND my 14 yr old DD. So we opted to lease the 2010 Odyssey and I'm so glad we did! I'm also glad we didn't have to deal with stupid car salesmen!
We just bought our Odyssey last Wednesday and we LOVE it! I am used to driving a Ford Escape and the Odyssey drives like a car - really smooth and easy to handle.
The whole car buying process was a real pain, esp 30 wks pg. I only put in an internet request about the Toyota and they tortured me by phone and e-mail, even after I said I'd already purchased a vehicle. Finally got them off my back.
Even the Honda experience was trying. We inquired with 4 different local dealerships. The 1st one by our house just would not deal. Second lured us in saying they had the color we wanted and just happened to get a deposit within the hour it took us to get there - they were really trying to sell the only one they had on the lot, which was red with tan interior (NMS - interior = dirt magnet). They wanted to charge us $200 extra to get the color we wanted. I went all psycho pregnant lady on them for lying to us. FINALLY, we negotiated a purchase over the phone with another dealer - it was the lowest quote of all 4 we received ($500 savings), and signing all the paperwork was relatively painless.
Good Luck!!!
