Baby Names

Ali?

I really dont like many names that have nn's, becuase I find that I tend not to like the nn and fear that the child would end up being called by their nn.

However, I like the nn Ali (I think its cute for DD), but would not want to use it as a fn. I like more unique names,so what you think of Aliyah or Aliyana (Not sure about spelling)?. If not, do you have any other suggestions?

Re: Ali?

  • Aliyah is okay but I just really don't like the y in the middle (I know it's meant to be there but it looks off to me)

    Hate Aliyana

What about Alexandra or Alexandria? She could always go by Allie....

  • We are thinking of Alice with the nn Ali

For a boy i love Alexander but i HATE Alex and i am sure people would call hm that - so we are using it as a middle name instead.

  • I like Allison and Alexandra.

FWIW, when I see "Ali" I pronounce it like the boxer and then correct it to "ally" (like a friend...an ally) and then have to correct myself AGAIN to pronounce it ALLIE. So....I'd prefer just to cut to the chase and spell it Allie.
