Babies on the Brain

OMG, BFF's OB is dumb

BFF found out yesterday that she has shingles (at about 20 weeks pregnant).  It's a mild case, they caught it early enough to effectively treat it, and they think she'll be fine and that she's far enough along for it to not affect the baby.  She was diagnosed by her regular doctor and then sent upstairs to talk to her OB about it.  She gets upstairs and her OB starts FREAKING out because she's not wearing a mask, and flat out refuses to talk to her until she puts one on.  For shingles.  Which is only contagious to people who haven't had chicken pox before, and only by touching an open sore (which hers are scabbed over AND she was wearing clothes that covered all of her rash/sores).

Her OB is insisting that she wear a mask to all of her appointments until the shingles completely go away.

::facepalm::

Re: OMG, BFF's OB is dumb

  • I'd be printing out the info on shingles from WebMD and giving it to her at the end of the next appointment.

    This is proof someone who went to school 10+ extra years can still be incredibly stupid.

  • I would hardly trust someone that stupid to deliver my child. Hope your friend is off looking for a new OB.

    This is what I said, but supposedly she's really good with all things pregnancy related, and that's true judging by what BFF has told me about appointments with her.  I guess that's the important part, but geez you'd think she could at least look up how shingles is transmitted if she has a patient with it who is telling her that it's not an airborne illness and a mask is pointless.

  • ::shakes head::

    It's not too late for her to change doctors...
