ER Question

Where is your DH actually hanging out during ER?  Does he go into the room where you're set up with you and your RE, hang out there while the RE does the ER, and then is there when you wake up?  Or, does he go with you, you go back into the room and he waits in the waiting room and is called back when you wake up.

  • My dh was with me in a pre op area until they had to take me back to the OR. I was still awake, but it wasn't long after that when I was given the anesthesia and fell asleep. DH was waiting for me in the recovery area where they brought me when it was over. I remember him being there when I woke up. I think he was waiting there the whole time.

My DH went to provide his sample after I was taken back.  If there was any time left (i.e. I was still in the ER when he was done) he would sit in the waiting room until they called him to meet me in recovery.

At my clinic your intake room is not the same as your recovery are so DHs/ SOs don't sit in the room you started out in as another patient would be starting the intake process in that room.

  • my DH hung out in the waiting room until it was time to give his sample then he went back to the waiting room until I was in "recovery". He wasn't able to be with me in the operative suite at all

  • My husband always leaves after he provides his sample.  We typically go in together but he leaves when he's done.  I don't need him to stay....I live in the city so it's not like I'm operating a car afterwards (I take a cab) and for all of my ERs, I've gone back to work afterwards.

  • He hangs out while you are waiting in the pre-op area in your gown.  Right when the RE comes to take you away for the surgery, the embryologist comes and whisks DH off to give his sample.  After he's done he just waits in the waiting room for you to be in recovery, then he joins you again.
