Success after IF

Rolling to tummy in sleep?

We just tried DS in his crib for the first time last night. He's been in an Arm's Reach cosleeper (the small one) in our room since birth and although he's not at the weight limit yet, he looks like a giant in the cosleeper, so it's time to move him to his own room and the big crib.

Halfway through the night, DS rolled from his back to his tummy in the crib, in his sleep. (He's been rolling to his tummy during the day for a couple of weeks now.) The thing is, he CAN roll in both directions, but I haven't seen him roll onto his back since he was 12 weeks old.

I don't feel at ALL comfortable leaving him on his tummy in the crib not knowing if he can flip himself back to a safe position in his sleep. How does this work? Do I just have to check on him and flip him onto his back all night? That can't be how it works. Is it? What did you do?

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • Honestly, I don't think there is a whole lot you can do once they start rolling over.

Caroline hasn't done this yet...I'm dreading it because it means no more swaddling.

  • Thanks for humoring me. I read my post again and I sound like an idiot. I'm just so damn sleep deprived at this point that the thought of having to wake up to make sure he was on his back had me half-crazy!

I think you're totally right -- I just have to let him get comfy however he's going to do it. He's in a safe crib, and that's all I can do.

But I'll probably be flicking on the video monitor all night anyway. :)

  • When Jake was in that in between stage, I would lay him on his side and that would keep him from rolling to his belly and give me a little peace of mind.  FWIW, when he started sleeping on his belly, he was so much better of a sleeper. Hang in there.
  • Oh, I like the idea of putting him on his side, too! I think that's really going to work for him.... Thanks!

W is a strong boy!  Give him a kiss for me, please!
