Also, OP, weren't you the one that was disgusted with people passing judgment on you for your situation?  Pot and kettle, together at last.

I don't have much to say on this debate except to say that this comment, Pixy, was COMPLETELY uncalled for.  OP has a physical disability - which is something completely out of her control.  People on food stamps DO have control over their situation.

    HUGE difference.

seriously, did you even think this out before you wrote it down in words we can all see...you know when you hit send we can all see this right?? you cannot really believe this bullsh!t...I refuse to believe that people like you and your narrow mindedness exist

I don't think she's studied the link between poverty and disability either poor thing. It's like in her mind there are poor people over there ::points:: rich people up there ::nods and points:: .

Life isn't complex. Just super simple. Must be nice to think so simply.

You do realize that some people who get ebt still have jobs and pay taxes just the same as everyone, with the economy and loss of jobs it sometimes is needed to make it by.who are you to judge what they buy.deniying a child a easter treat shame on you

This. I know several families that the parents both work but they can't afford to make ends meet. In some cases, the cost of childcare eats a good chunk of their income, in other cases they may have high rent, high medical expenses, or high costs of other things needed for survival.

They may have had income that was livable to have kids when they conceived (so please don't say poor people shouldn't have kids!!!)  but something as simple as a job loss left them in a lower-paying job... or a special needs kid unexpectedly could have cost them a good chunk of what was formerly their food budget. Tongue Tied

I'm honestly so confused as to which side you are on.

Oh give me a break.  Poor people can't get away with anything.  They buy candy, omg wtf you're buying candy buy something healthy!

They buy something healthy, omg wtf how come they can afford healthy food and I'm living on mac & cheese!

They buy mac & cheese, omg wtf why are they buying junk? Eat better!

You know what?  Keep your mind on your own grocery carts, and the world would be a much better place.

How can you not even have the least bit of concern when YOUR tax dollars are helping people pay for what's in that grocery cart?  I don't think anyone thinks poor families don't deserve candy once in a while, but it's the fact that the store is encouraging them to spend their limited benefits on items that are not nutritious, plus WAY higher profit margin for the store.

Um, easily.  My life isn't shitty enough that I need EBT.  Therefore, If you want some candy, rock the hell on with yourself.   Clearly you've got some hardships I don't.

This is just ignorance at it's finest.  Just because I am not poor doesn't mean I shouldn't care where my money goes.  There are plenty of people in tough situations and I'm glad there are programs in place to assist them, but there are just as many people (if not more) abusing these programs and I'm not at all pleased that that's where a portion of my tax dollars wind up.

Exactly. I really loved the dental hygenist who complained about how bad her patient's teeth were, then followed up with "Seriously, just get a job with dental insurance. It's not hard...." Welcome to real life sweetie, why do you think there's a big deal over health care right now? Its not that easy. Even if you are hard working and NOT on assistance.

HAHAHAH!!  THAT'S why poor people shouldn't get skittles!  It comes full circle - hooray!

Since they don't alwasy have the knowledge of what to buy.  You get x#of cereal and sugary ones aren't covered, so much meat, chix, fresh produce, milk products, ect.  Then you go to th egrocery with a check list and come out with good healthy food for ou and your family.

And this is Y I say you are a tool. Did you go through a nutrition program when you were getting ready to procreate? Do you have shopping lists created for you by people who think because you are poor, you are stupid? Are you banned from picking up sugary cereal for your kid?
    No?

No I am not becasue I buy my childs food with no assistance.  I am sorry but if you are ona gov't program then you get NEEDS and NEEDS only! They need to be Healthy Options and not just a bog full of sh*t.  If you want sugar crap ceral then pay for it with money.  No I do not believe my tax dollars should pay for things that are not needs. Well I am glad I do not associate my self with a bunch of people that scam the government.

I also want to knwo how you KNEW they did not need it? Because the income requirements for it are stict...and lord knows I do not want to ever experience how hard it must be to live with the income that people that use governmetn assistance do.

Well if mom takes what little paycheck she gets and uses it to buy cigarettes and booze while the govt is paying her rent and feeding her kids I question whether she needs financial assistance, or assistance making better financial decisions.

And while all of this questioning is going on, her kids would be starving without assistance.

Since when do kids have to starve because they have shitty parents?

Good god, I swear, if my life ever came down to being so paranoid and bitter about others...

Totally missing my point.  I don't think kids should starve.  It bothers me that buy getting assistance to feed her kids it enables her irresponsible behavior.  A big reason why the generational poverty cycle is so hard to break is because assistance programs keep people dependent on them instead of helping them better their situations.

I know!  This is why I buy organic!  Everyone complains that it is so expensive, but it's expensive because the government subsidies non-organic food, which just keeps the cost down.

Organic food is so much better for you, especially the meat.  There is no crap and additives and hormones in it.  I budget for my food, I don't need the government subsidies to make food affordable to me.  I'm so glad we are on the same page on this.  I hate when people feed their kids non-organic meat because they complain organic is too expensive!!!!!!!!!  Those people are soooooo lazy!!!!!!!!!

Would you feel better if the kids came to your house on Easter morning and said, 'Thank you so much for paying your taxes so I could wake up to a surprise ... you're a great American!!!'

MY point is that you claim EBT = Shitty life.  Untrue. Although what I'm dealing with right now is difficult, it is by no means "shitty".  My family is well-fed and well-nourished.

I'm just catching up.  No, actually, that's a big fat FAIL on the comprehension on why people end up under the poverty line, the cycle of poverty, and really just a general understanding of the job economy right now.

  • So, to recap, here's where we are.  Let me know if I've got this right, because I want to laminate this and hand it out to my section 8 neighbors and their extended visitors.

    Wait, wait, wait?

Aren't you ON food stamps?  So are you in the part that is abusing the system or no?

No, I'm not on any type of assistance.

    Yes

You do know that every study ever conducted has found the level of abuse is LOWER than the number of people NOT abusing the system?

Or do you always just speak out of your ass?

Technically I wasn't speaking, I was typing a "thumbs up symbol" on a bold section of a PP.

    ;0)

    Wow, you're so cool.

Wait, that's your response? TBH I don't know if Major's post was directed at you or dreamsicle, but her response was valid either way.

My response would cause this thread to go for another 10 pages, so I kept it light. I'll save my political rants for another website. This is purely entertainment for me.

ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME?!  So people who need EBT have shitty lives?? So the fact that I'm in college full time, DF works 58+hrs a week, but since our rent has recently gone up, and I'm unable to work while I'm in college, causing us to us EBT to supplement for groceries, means we have a shitty life?? WHOA.  You need to get of your fvcking high horse, a$$hole.

all the crappy stuff said in this thread about people using government assistance and THIS is what gets you upset?

I don't care what people use their EBT for.  That's none of my concern.  The fact that a small portion of my tax dollars goes to their assistance is the last thing I need to be worried about.  I've got bigger problems.

Sigh. I think MN's point was that clearly other people in this thread care a great deal about what people use their EBT for and have made very judgmental comments about how people should use their EBT.

Um, you are proving my point.  That sounds hard as all hell.  Harder than anything I've got going on.  So, actually, from my high horse, I'm saying I think you should be allowed to use your EBT for whatever the hell you want.

Unlike some of the others in the post who are arguing you can't have candy with their tax dollar.

MY point is that you claim EBT = Shitty life.  Untrue. Although what I'm dealing with right now is difficult, it is by no means "shitty".  My family is well-fed and well-nourished.

I think you are missing my point that some of your buddies on this board think you and everyone else on EBT have an easy life and are living on champagne and jelly beans because of there tax dollars.

And my point is, it isn't like life on EBT is a picnic. If it is so great, they would be lining up to change places with you.  By your own description, it is difficult.

You are attacking the wrong person here.

Okay, I see your point now.  The way your worded things previously didn't seem as through we're arguing the same point here. EBT isn't something that people should be ashamed to use if they need it.  Without it, we'd be eating ramen noodles, and spaghetti every week.

I get upset when people assume that somehow my life is "less" because I have to use a bit of government assistance.

You do realize that some people who get ebt still have jobs and pay taxes just the same as everyone, with the economy and loss of jobs it sometimes is needed to make it by.who are you to judge what they buy.deniying a child a easter treat shame on you

If this is true, then buy needs with your EBT's and pay cash for th candy and non needs.  Makes since to me.  Yep I get the economy, my family has cut back a lot and given up a lot of things, people on this programs will have to do the same.  That is just life it is the way it works. I fell no shame.

As evidenced by your earlier posts today, you're just bitter the government didn't step in you help you.  Too bad, so sad.

This is y I said I think it should be liek WIC.

Also just to add, no I do not buy my child sugar ceral, nor did my parents buy it for me.

I've had to read your posts serveal times now just to figure out WTF you typed.  Please use REAL words and construct REAL sentences.

    ::breath::

I can't believe some of you jerks are really begrudging less fortunate kids and few M&Ms and Cadbury Creme Eggs.  REALLY?!!!  JCOAB get off of your high horses and worry about your own damnfamily.  The .0002 cents that you paid to allow some kid a little normalcy doesn't effect you THAT much that you have to make a diickwad out of yourself in this thread.

Would you feel better if the kids came to your house on Easter morning and said, 'Thank you so much for paying your taxes so I could wake up to a surprise ... you're a great American!!!'

    Jerks.

Probably should have SP's that one, but who really cares.  No, i wouldn't feel better at all.  I don't think an Easter Basket is a NEED and you act as though it is only .000002 whatever.  I sure in hell pay a sh*t ton more taxes then that to a LONG LINE of Gov't entitlements and I am tied of all of them! And FYI if things keep going the way they are going, I won't have to worry about them because they won't exist because we will not have the money to pay for them anymore.  yes, that will be sad for the people who need them, but when you are spending money on needs and not wants then too bad.  If you can't afford an easter basket for your kids I am sorry, but at the same time Easter isn't about candy it is about Jesus, so tell your kids about that instead of the Easter Bunny.  And yes I can afford an Easter Basket for my kid, but we don't have one for him this year, and I a seriously doubt he will need any therapy because he didn't get one.  I feel bad for the kids, I do, but at the same time that is the way things work, and there are plenty of FREE Things you can take your kids to! Community easter hunts, church easter hunts, make a picnic and hit the park, make pancakes that morning, tell them the story of Easter.  I doubt any child's life will be ruined because they didn't get some skittles on easter.

Are you the same type of person who thinks that your Social Security check will support you one day when you are old and can not work? Are you counting on that money too?

  • I do not care if someone on food stamps is buying candy. Candy is good, it makes people happy. Happy people = less violence.

I do think someone should be required to pass a drug test before becoming eligible for government assistance.
