Changing DS's diaper has become a competitive olympic sport, so I'm looking for something to give me an advantage (he's one determined little guy and I'm tired of cleaning up pee after chasing him trying to get on a clean diaper). It looks like his weight is within the range of the sizes they offer for pull ups, but will they leak?
Re: Pull-ups for 18 month old?
DS is in the Pampers version of Pull Ups and he's only about 23 lbs. I've found that they do leak a little more than regular diapers do, but it's in weird situations. For instance, he's prone to leaks if he is sitting in the car for a long time--I guess the pee is more liable to squish out the leg holes or something.
I'm actually switching back to Luvs after we finish this box of pull ups though. DS isn't showing any signs of PTing soon (he was when we started, so I wanted something that went on the same way that undies do) and Pull ups are expensive and there are fewer in a box. We're going through boxes way too quickly for me to justify the expense.
As far as the fighting diaper changes goes, it does help some, b/c he can stand up when you take the diaper off (pee only) and help pull it down or up. Poop is more problematic though, because you have to lay them down and tear the sides.
We use the huggies pull-ups - we started out with the Pampers and the only reason we changed was at the request of our daycare. Huggies version has velcro like tabs on the side that makes it easier to put on and off - pampers you basically have to tear the sides if you want to open it easier (in case of poop).
We have been using for quite awhile...the only time we have a leak of some sort is if she has been in it for too long. Remmember these are basically training pants - not diapers. So they are not designed to contain tons of urine. As long as you change it frequently (every 2-3hrs) you should be fine.
