Does this sound like reflux?

Hadley is usually a happy baby. Like she fusses/cries for less than 30 minutes a day. She's always been a spitter upper, but lately, it seems a lot more excessive. And she seems to be more fussy than she used to be. Usually if she's fussing, we'll pick her up and put her on our shoulders like we're burping her. 9 times out of 10, she spits up. And then she's usually back to her old happy self. Her spit up has been more cottage cheesy lately, too. But she never cries or fusses while she's feeding or after feedings. And she never cries inconsolably. She spits up at all hours of the day (not just during or after feedings) and sometimes it's projectile, sometimes it's just a little dribble. It's the worst right before she gets the hiccups. She's like a fountain of spit up. We've trying elevating her mattress and keeping her upright after feedings but it doesn't really seem to have improved the situation.

Do y'all think she might have reflux? If so, is it serious enough to put her on meds? Of course, we'll talk to the pedi about this but I'm curious to hear from reflux mommas about their experiences.

  • could be. does she arch her back when she is crying out?  DS arches his back and gets really stiff and screams in pain.

  • FWIW, Baby A never arched her back like a lot of reflux babies, nor did she have a whole lot of projectile vomit.  She would just spit up EVERY meal significant amounts.  And she was pretty constantly fussy (but then again, I just think she's a temperamental baby too.)  So what I mean is I don't think that reflux necessarily presents itself in every baby in the same way.  So H could be reflux-y if she's spitting up that much.

The meds are pretty mild; I felt really fine about giving them to her.  They're just an antacid.  They're not going to STOP the spitting  up, they'll just make it less uncomfortable for her.  It's worth a try.  And also, we were NEVER able to even lay A down in ANY kind of recline after eating.  She had to be basically 90 degrees upright for 20-30 min after every meal.  It's kind of hell because you can't put them down when you do that, but it did stop a lot of the spitting up.

GL!  Reflux (if that's what she has) is so annoying and can be so frustrating!
