Pedi recs?

Anyone recommend any of the following practices/pedis?  Why or why not?  Sorry if it seems so limited, these are the only pedi's that my insurance covers that are in my general area.  I think "the" Dr Chang is on here?  Do you still all recommend him/her after the issues I've seen come up on the board.

Scott & White Pflugerville Clinic- Chau Nguyen or Chrishanthi Perera

Treehouse Pediatrics- Debaroti Addy, Ting-Chaun Chang, Wade Travis, or Anselmo Unite

Private Practice- Gabriel C Millar

Pediatric Center of Round Rock- Marta M Katalenas

Scott & White Round Rock- Samantha Deiterich, Lakshimi Atkuri, Daniel Richards,  Nimmi Thoppli

Wyoming Springs Pediatrics- Rafael De Haro

There are other Family Medicine clinics listed as well, but I wasn't sure if that is specifically for older children or also for infants.

Treehouse Pediatrics- Ting-Chaun Chang (or Dr Travis)

Yes, absolutely, implicitly.  It's terrible that 3 nesties have had a negative experience (especially MC) but it does not dimish the standard of care I anticpate they'll provide going foward. Much like when you ask for a persons experience from a dealership, store or airline - everyone is going to have a bad experience from someone. Nobody is perfect. However the positives I have seen from this practice far outweigh the isolated instances.

  • I don't have info on the pedis, but wanted to speak to the family practice question. We are with a family practice doctor right now, not by our choice, and I am not happy with the care we receive. I think if you have a great relationship with a GP and know they have a lot of infant experience, keep up on current recommendations, etc. it could be fine, but I would be hesitant to randomly choose a GP to care for my infant. Specifically, if they are not really comfortable with infants they may tend to overtreat to cover themselves. I took the twins into the GP they are assigned to because I thought they had EIs. They didn't, but Mason was wheezing and she put him on an antibiotic even though we know it is not bacterial. She put Wyatt on an antibiotic because, as she put it, "I see some drainage in his throat." Their pedi was able to see them shortly after and confirmed that neither needed antibiotics. The GPs office also told me that I needed to give my 6 month old bottles of water in place of breastmilk to treat congestion. Surprise From my experience, I would want to see a doctor who specializes in treating babies/children.

  • I second Taytee.  We just started seeing Dr. Chang a few months ago, but have been in for 2 sick visits and 1 well check.  The staff is remarkably more competent than our previous pedi and Dr. Chang is wonderful with Luke.  I can't express how much better he is with my baby boy than our previous pedi (who was a mom of 2!).

We saw Dr. Travis for one of our sick visits and he was equally awesome.  If we couldn't have gotten Dr. Chang, I would be completely happy going with Dr. Travis.

Also, their NPs are fantastic.  I really have had nothing but good experiences with them.

  • Ditto everything Taytee said. I have had nothing but amazing experiences with Treehouse and it really does upset me that three bad stories have people questioning whether they want to continue going there (even though they've had no bad experiences) and has people questioning if they should look into Treehouse. We're on the same insurance and I interviewed several of those pedis...Dr. Travis is the ONLY one I even remotely felt comfortable with. He's wonderful and has made personal phone calls to me to make sure Will is doing alright after a scary ER visit when he was 6 weeks old.

I totally and completely trust all the doctors at Treehouse, though I'm a bit partial to Travis.

ETA: I don't know if Treehouse is taking new patients at this time, but if you need a referral, let me know. I'd be more than happy to give you one!

  • I haven't picked yet since the baby isn't here, but I called Treehouse last week and only Travis and Addy are taking new patients. DH and I have an appointment soon with Travis since I have heard his name mentioned as being good. For Addy, a meet the doctor appointment was over a month out, which I took as a sign that she was busier.

I second Taytee.  We just started seeing Dr. Chang a few months ago,

How?!  I called them in October and they said they, not just Dr Chang, but the entire practice was not taking any new patients period.  I even told them I knew current patients and could get a referral, they said nope! And were kind of rude about it as well.  Tongue Tied

I also would not recommend Dr deharo on you list.  I like his partner Dr Marshal but Dr deHaro's policies caused us to leave Wyoming Springs after 4 years.

  • I'm not so much second guessing Treehouse, I just wanted to make sure that there were still good things about them.  I don't mind the occasional bad review, everyone has different opinions.

To be honest they are the only ones I feel comfortable going with since they are the ones that anyone here has used.  I'll definitely be calling soon to see if they will even take us.  Libby, I might need your referral :)  Although, why do they ask for a referral... ?
