NBR: COBRA woes

Ugh, DH has had the worst time with Wells Fargo (his former employer). They "forgot" to pay him his last check & now they are having "technical difficulties" getting him enrolled in COBRA. So currently he & DS are not insured because Wells can't figure out some issue on their end, and they have zero answers. They tell DH every day they will call him back, but they don't. Just venting...we have no idea what to do!

Re: NBR: COBRA woes

  • ughhhh I'm so sorry.

My mom is currently dealing with similar struggles (not WF).  She was given a "quit within the next 30 days" (so you can train your replacement) or "you're fired today" - and she just cut her ties.

Her paperwork came back saying "voluntary unemployment" which makes her ineligable for unemployment benefits and cobra.  She and my dad are ready to fight it if they don't get back to her this week with revised paperwork.

Why must people be so shady????  I'm sorry.

  • lol, thanks. Up until about 6 mos ago, we were happy with them...until they started taking our mortgage out of the wrong account (and leaving us overdrawn) with no explanation more than once, forgot to pay DH on more than one occassion, and now the COBRA deal. We are so happy to be DONE!

Strange. I thought COBRA was always an option when leaving a job. Hope she works it out!

COBRA is always an option. She was probably told she was ineligible for the subsidized COBRA, which is the exact same thing that happened to DH. He was a Project Manager for a company and they told him they no longer needed him to serve in that position but he could have a punch-out position instead (ie, hourly pay, hard labor, no insurance!!!). He declined and was asked to leave that day -- then they said he quit which made us ineligible for u/e and subsidized COBRA. And that was just the beginning of our battle with them/COBRA. Ugh. Assholes.

ACR - How long has it been since his job ended? You have 90 days to opt in and IF you do opt in you're covered in that time. Make sense? DH lost his job in May, we decided to opt in at the end of June and had to pay for that time in between and were still covered. So maybe all will work out within that time? Hope everything comes together soon. Good luck.

  • He left his job as of Feb 28. I know that once they get the COBRA paperwork squared away, the coverage will be retroactive. He has a lot of prescriptions that he's not anxious to pay full price for right now. I think he's mostly frustrated because they keep giving him the run-around ("Oh, we don't know why it isn't done yet. There's some problem, but we don't know what it is" BS). Good times!

What a PITA! Sorry you're having to deal with that.

    Hope it all works out!

  • I can totally identify! But my problem is with UT! I had to call over and over just to get an application out of them. And then the lady never sent it, so everywhere I went they said I wasn't covered. Then, once the medical finally got straightened out a week and a half ago, the prescription part didn't go through. And this week, my doctor's office called to get pre-authorization for my delivery and they told her my coverage had been terminated. Um, what?!?!? I'm due in less than a week! So it's been a not fun experience. So I can totally relate to you guys! Hope you get it worked out soon!
