CIO + rolling over to belly

DS discovered how to roll on his belly this week. Now I cannot put him in his crib without him rolling over.

I cannot stand to hear him cry knowing he is on his stomach. I am so anxious about SIDS prevention.

Do any of you let you LO cry to sleep (even for 15 minutes) if they are on their stomach?

  • I really hope we don't encounter this problem.  He rolls in the morning when he wakes up, but not when it's time to go to bed.  I personally would let him cry, but stay in the room (hidden of course).  Then maybe roll him when he's asleep.

  • I can't keep DS on his back now that he discovered he can sleep on his stomach. I could try, but it would turn into me endlessly running back in and flipping him over after he rolls.

To answer your question, yes, I'm sure I let DS cry sometimes while he's on his stomach, just because I don't go check on him right away. More often than not he stops crying when he gets onto his belly, though.

His pediatrician said that while he can't guarantee anything, he would not "expect" anything to happen to DS because of tummy sleeping. I'm trying not to worry about it.

We got an AngelCare Monitor so if LO sleeps on his tummy there is a little extra security that the alarm will go off if he does stop breathing.  My pedi did tells us that if DS ends up on his tummy, it should be ok.  But just not to start him out that way.

  • Can he roll both ways yet?  If he can, then it's okay to let him sleep on his belly, but still best to lay him down on his back to start.  I would be pretty nervous letting my LO cry to sleep while on his belly though.  We try to always follow safe sleep practices, and here's a great list: https://www.halosleep.com/keep_your_baby_safe/safe_sleep_tips/

  • funny you should mention it. I am trying a tiny bit of CIO right now for a nap.. and she is on her belly. We cannot get her to stay on her back at all these days.

Bro, but look how many ants are on this trash can...
