Supervised Nap during Tummy Time?

My DH (1 month) falls asleep during tummy time.  Is it okay if I let her sleep if I supervise her carefully and stay right near her?  We are usually in our bed (no blankets around, just on the sheet) or on a tummy time mat.

Re: Supervised Nap during Tummy Time?

  • I let mine stay like that sometimes or turn him on his side

  • I say yes, I let my LO nap that way because she actually naps really well.
  • I let DD sleep on her tummy for naps while watching her closely.  She sleeps so well that way.

  • We let DS nap on his belly all the time because we're up and around to check on him. Its when we're sleeping too that we put him on his back.

    All ALers welcome!
  • DS likes to sleep all the way on his side. We let him nap when we are up like this, because we can watch him closely.
  • I don't let her nap like that, but maybe I'm a paranoid mama.
  • I totally let him sleep on his tummy during the day when I can watch him.  I don't stress about SIDS as much as others do, though, I guess, after I crunched the numbers.

  • Yep. DS loves to nap on his belly. Like others, I will only let him if we're around to check on him all the time- but I will not let him do it on our bed even without blankets. It's just too soft. Our couch, his crib, sure.

(And as for the couch, I think that's going to be nixed soon. He's starting to scoot now. And I just KNOW the day I turn my back for a moment he'll either roll off or scoot off the couch and I'll never forgive myself, even if he was perfectly fine.)

  • I've let DS nap on his tummy a few times now.  I'm always nearby to supervise, plus we have an audio/video monitor so I can stare directly at him the whole time if I'm in another room.  He sleeps great on his tummy but he goes on his back (swaddled) to sleep at night while we're sleeping.

I do this as well...she sleeps SO much better on her tummy!

  • I'll occasionally let her nap on her tummy when I can supervise her. I just don't make a habit out of it.
