Not that I ever found it before I got pregnant, but at least a truce w/bras would be good...
Here's the situtation - my ribcage seems to be expanding at a crazy rate. I make it all the way through first tri w/the same bras. At the beginning of second tri, I bought two regular, larger sized bras at Target. Two weeks later I was back for back extenders. A week later I got a nursing bra from Motherhood Maternity in the hopes that it would stretch. It lasted about a week and then my ribcage was squeezed too tight. On Sunday I bought a Destination Maternity bra Sears. It fit wonderfully. Today is Thursday - I'm starting to feel constricted again...seriously - how long can this go on?
Any recs. for a bra that stretches. It's mostly the band that seems to be the problem. I've already switched from traditional band types - to S, M, L types. I also need it to be padded as I get cold easily...
Thanks for any info./commiserating you may have.
Re: Seeking bra nirvana
I feel your pain. One of my only physical problems throughout my pregnancy was rib cage pain. It just seemed like I could not find any bra that would make my ribs not hurt. It felt like if there was any pressure under there, it hurt. For me, it got a little better in 2nd tri but then came back in 3rd tri. It didn't completely go away until after I had the baby. I hope that's not the case for you but here are some things I tried:
I bought a big bra and put two extenders on it.
At work if I was going to be sitting at my desk for a while, I just unhooked my bra.
I bought the largest sized sports bras at Target that didn't have heavy elastic at the bottom and wore those to work.
I sometimes wore my belly band as a bra.
Sometimes, I just didn't wear a bra (at home).
I bought a fitted tank top thingy at motherhood maternity and wore that instead of a bra some times.
Basically, it was just a bunch of trial and error to figure out what would be most comfortable on any given day. I hope that will at least give you some ideas. But bottom line is that it's completely normal during pregnancy.
Thanks for the ideas! I will give these a try!
Have not been able to find them in stores and my size seems to vary a lot according to brand...so I'm rather chicken about ordering online...
This. Go get properly fitted at Trousseau. Buy one bra that you love. Write down the size and brands of the other bras you like while shopping. Then go to Lord and Taylor. The carry many of the same brands and you can get them often at half the price using a coupon and a sale. I'm about to do this for nursing bras. GL
This is the only place I can buy my bras...I got my nursing bras there and as you probably know, they are great to work with
GL!
