I had one with my first thinking it would be great to keep my hands free but it turned out to be a pain.
You have to take it all the way off and on and that requires free hands at some point.
You can't easily reach in and grab something out while carrying it (ie: keys)
It doesn't work well with a bulky coat on.
I ended up preferring a regular bag with an easy open magnetic closure and lots of outside pockets that stayed on my shoulder well.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
I 2nd the Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy backpack! You can carry it as a back pack with both straps or remove them and carry it over the shoulder with one strap as well.
I LOVE mine - it fits so much stuff and fits on the stroller well too!
Ju-Ju-Be has a backpack diaper bag and I think you can also use it as a messenger bag. Watch the videos!
We have the pack-a-be and we love it! You can use it as a backpack or messenger bag without having to remove the strap. If you prefer the traditional strap style, you can remove the strap and attach it traditionally for use as a shoulder diaper bag.
I have this one, and I LOVE it. It is a little big for everyday use/running errands, but it is great for trips to the zoo, the park, travel, etc. You can fit a ton of stuff in the bag, and it is very comfortable to wear. Plus, it has a cooler in the bottom, which is handy for snacks and drinks. Oh, and the drink holder on the side comes off if you want the pack to be a little more streamlined. I seriously love it. Have I mentioned that?
Had a JuJu Be pack a be when it was just DS and I loved it, I changed it to a shoulder bag occasionally. Now I have a large Vera Bradley Backpack and I really love my hands being free and not wrrying about it slipping off my shoulder. Where we live, it is really warm though, so no coats to worry about!

Not me. I'm not a "backpack" type of person. Even my schoolbags as I got older were never backpacks! LOL!
I don't find them that convenient. It just adds more weight to you.......
