When was your 1st appt?

I called my OB this morning and they scheduled my first appt for April 27th. I'll be almost 11 weeks then.

I'm undecided if I should get betas done. I want to but I don't at the same time. I'm kind of freaking out that I have to wait so long for the first appt?

How far along were you for the first appt? And, did you get betas drawn?

No betas for me.  My first appt is 4/8, so I'll be almost 10 wks.  But, I do have an u/s on 3/19, which will be 7wks.

I have an appt/ultrasound on 3/15 in which I will be exactly 7 weeks. The dr normally gets his patients in between 8-11 weeks but since I had a miscarriage back in January, he wants to see me sooner.

I did not have any betas done.

I didn't do betas this time because I thought they would freak me out.  I had my first u/s at 6w3d and then my first real appointment at 8w6d.

Wow, that seems really long.  My first appt was when I was 9 weeks.  I've never had Beta's done.

hmm, hopefully they can get you in sooner - do they know you've had a loss before?

My first appointment is next Thursday the 18th and I will be 5w6d. That's just a confirmation/intake appointment with the nurse. My first appt with the OB is April 15.  I had betas done yesterday and am still waiting for the results.  I'll have my first u/s around 7 weeks.

All these tests before I actually see a doctor!  I am getting the betas because if the numbers are good I can relax a bit and if they aren't I'll know well in advance.

I didn't get betas because my doctor thought they would just stress me out. My 1st appt was at 8 weeks. I didn't want an early u/s because all babies progress differently and we wanted to make sure we saw the hb.

My first appt was at 6 weeks exactly and I had an u/s to check for a heartbeat - I had another appt at 7 1/2 weeks to check for growth -

I had a confirmation appointment with a nurse practioner at 5 weeks 1 day.  She asked about family history, LMP, did a physical exam and ordered bloodwork.

Since I know I ovulated "late" they are sending me for an ultrasound at 6 weeks 5 days on Thursday.  But I won't actually see my OB until March 30th (will be 9 weeks 2 days).

My first appointment was yesterday at 5wk 1day with OB. They did blood work to check betas and progresterone. I have u/s scheduled for 3/22 at 7wk 1day.

My first appt. was right around 4w.  They drew blood to confirm the pregnancy, but I didn't get any follow up betas.  I just didn't want to the stress.  I'll go on Monday for an u/s and will be 7w3d.

I got two betas done by my RE.  He also did three early u/s.  I graduated from him at ~9 weeks and my first OB appt was at 10 1/2 weeks. 

Maybe they could sneak you in for an u/s at 7 or 8 weeks just for your peace of mind because of your history?  (Personally the 6 week u/s caused more fear and worry than it was worth...the 7 and 8 week ones were awesome.)

My ob usually does 1st appointments at 8 weeks but I will be going in tomorrow at 5 w 2 d just because I have had 2 ectopics and they want to rule that out.

I did get betas drawn, but I'm not sure I'd do it again.  Too much worry.  I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks 5 days, an appointment with a nurse at 9 weeks, then an appointment with my OB at 10 weeks.  Good luck and congrats!!!

OMG, I just called my OB office back to see if I'd get my 1st US at my 1st appt. They said NO! The first appt is with the NP. I won't get my u/s until 17-18 weeks! I said that there was no way I could wait that long, especially given the fact I had a loss and I'm going to be 35 this month! I think I need to know if this will be viable prior to 17 weeks! Sheesh. Looks like I'm off to look for a new OB. God, I wish I never moved out of state and I had my old OB back

I had an appointment with my old OB at 8 weeks scheduled, but then I decided to switch to another OB who was highly recommended, so I canceled the one appointment and wasn't able to get in with the new one until 10 weeks. I was kicking myself, thinking I should have done both appointments. It seemed like a long wait, but it's helped everything go by faster since then. I've had 4 u/s's since with appointments and the NT scan, and my big u/s is Friday.

ETA: I had betas at my old OB, but they were really nerve racking since they didn't double in 48 hours, but were closer to 63 hours. I also had spotting and bleeding scares at 4&6 weeks, but my old OB just did more betas instead of an u/s.

I am followed by a RE.  I've had betas drawn and we start doing u/s at 5 weeks until I "graduate" at 8 weeks.

My first appointment is March 19 @ 8 wks. I will be getting an exam and doing an u/s. I did get my betas about 2 weeks ago, made me feel a little better knowing that my numbers were normal.

My dr did betas right after my BFP..  My first appt was at 6 wks.  I think 11 wks is late considering you have had loss..

My OB's office does the 1st for everyone at 8 weeks. I don't think I could have waited so long to see that little heartbeat!

I did get a first beta done, just because I was a little in shock about the positive test. Also I wanted to make sure my progesterone was ok so I had that drawn twice.

I had betas drawn by RE right away and my first appt with RE was at 6 weeks to rule out ectopic since I had some bleeding and cramping issues.

You should only monitor or be seen as soon as you feel comfortable. If you need the reassurance then take the early monitoring. I don't think it is unreasonable to be seen before 11 weeks just to ease your mind.

Thanks ladies. The nurse called me back. She basically said this is standard procedure for all their patients. She said they could run betas if I wanted them but I don't really think I do. Honestly, my betas with my last pregnancy were almost 80,000 so for me I don't think it would do anything to ease my mind. The nurse also said that if I'm measuring "off" they will do an u/s earlier or if there are cramping/spotting issues. I really love the OB and since I live in east bumblefvck now, there's not many good OBs to choose from who accept my insurance. I think I'll do a little more checking to see who else I can find. I'm still really pissed though. Thanks again!

Mine is scheduled for April 7. I have had my betas done and they doubled. but I think i am going to call and see if I can get in earlier since I will 9 weeks at my first appt and that is when I mc last time.

 i had one set of betas done at 5 weeks (only bc I had a pap scheduled) and my first pre-natal appointment at 7 weeks.

Congrats on your BFP!

I went to the doctor 2 days post BFP.  My urine test at the doctors came back very light and he recommended doing a beta.  I went back a week later to look for a sac, and it was questionable so we did a second beta.  After that point I went about every two weeks until 15 weeks.  My doctor was with me through my miscarriage and IF, so that's why I've had such frequent appointments.

I wasn't going to get betas, but then my Ob suggested them and I just went along with it for the reassurance.  My first U/S was 6w4d.  First "new Ob" appointment was 8w4d.

This is my third pregnancy and I've never had betas (except for after my m/c).  My first appointment is at 10 weeks.  Last time it was 11 weeks.

I had my 1st u/s and appointment with my Dr. yesterday at 6w6d.  My next appointment is at 11 weeks and my next u/s will be at 19 weeks. I can't believe they won't let you see the actual Dr. or have an ultrasound sooner!!!  Especially because you've had a loss.  I  would go crazy.
