Any signs of dilating or effacing?

Is there any symptons/signs that tell you that you are dilating or effacing? Or do you not feel anything? I posted something earlier about my crotch feeling bruised. I also have been feeling lots of pressure down there. I am 34 weeks and I am not sure if there is anything I am supposed to look out for.

Re: Any signs of dilating or effacing?

  • I never felt the dilating or effacing with DD, so personally I would say no. I could be wrong though. Lately I have been feeling a ton of pressure, crotch pain, and some mild cramping, but it seems to be normal.

  • Nope...contractions I suppose.
  • For me with DS1, I just had very mild cramps at 39 weeks that would come and go with occasional contractions for an entire week.  I went from being 2cm to 3cm that week.  DS2 I've had a lot more cramping and feeling crummy, but alas, I'm still a fingertip dilated and very thick.  Sigh, my OB thinks he will come closer to his due date.  Fine since it's easier to care for him in than out, but I'm just so tired and uncomfortable.

  • If you have a lot of contractions, it's safe to assume you are starting to dilate and/or efface.

  • I felt those things.  But on Monday I found out that I haven't dilated or effaced at all.  Totally bummed me out.

  • I've had crotch pain/pressure and contractions, and I am not even the tiniest bit dilated or effaced.  The baby hasn't dropped down enough to put any pressure on my cervix.
  • you can't really feel dialation or effacement, but when a baby flips to head down there is a huge difference in pain in the pelvis/pressure/lightening crotch feelings  IMO
