Hi ladies,
I had a routine cleaning about a month ago and they discovered a rather large cavity in one of my teeth and a decent sized crack as well (same tooth). At that time they said they would try to hold off fixing it until after the babies were born unless it was bothering me. Well, lo and behold, the past week or so it has been bothering me quite a bit and is getting increasingly sensitive to hot/cold. I'm almost 100% sure it will need a crown. Has anyone had any major dental procedure during their pregnancy? I do know that they will use a different type of novocaine (obviously they are already aware of my pregnancy..). Just wanted to see if there was anybody out there who had needed some type of procedure...
Thanks!
Re: Dental procedure during 2nd tri?
I had my wisdom teeth taken out and a root canal during my second tri. Both were a breeze- I hardly felt a thing. It was nothing compared to the pain I was having!
I went to an oral surgeon and he said it's much safer to have it done than to risk getting an infection...
My doc said to wait unless it was something that was really necessary. Sounds like yours is necessary. Just have your dentist call and talk to your doctor and see what they say. That's what I would do.
I had some seals replaced on my back teeth at 24 weeks. My dentist and MFM were in communication with each other (MFM had to fax over his approval of the dental work). All went fine.
GL and hope you feel better!
