Breast Pump -- to put on the registry or not?

I really feel like I should buy my own breast pump.. because it seems like such a personal thing. But, if someone were to actually buy it for me.... that would be super cool. Just curious... [Poll]

  • I see NO problem with it. You are getting it to help feed your child? How is it different from diapers or bottles etc? Now if you were putting a Wii fit on there I would be giving you the major side eye! Stick out tongue If nothing else you can use the completion code at the end to get it cheaper!

  • If BRU had the one I wanted I totally would.  I look at it this way- anyone who'd come to your shower or buy you a gift should know that women feed babies via the breast so if they think it's "weird" or "gross" that you put it on there then they are the one with the problem.

  • I totally put it on my registry (and not because I'm expecting someone to drop that much money on me for a shower, but b/c I'm hoping to get the completion discount on it when I have to buy it.)

agree. it's no more personal than diapers and wipes...those go directly on baby parts and no one scoffs.

  • I put other only because my health insurance covers it. Make sure you check
  • I think its ok to register for, I mean I wanted the medela one thats handsfree but its $379.00 and im not about to ask someone to spend that much money or expect to get that one, but I think its ok to register for a middle of the road one where its comparable!
  • I registered for the Lansinoh double electric and didn't get it.  I ended up buying myself the Medela Swing (single electric pump) after a friend recommended it.
  • I put it on my registry initially, but then I felt weird about it and decided to buy it myself, haha.
  • I put mine in there. I figure I'd either be surprised (I don't think/expect anyone to spend that kind of money on me) or I could use the completion coupon to get it cheaper.

  • I put it on there. I kinda figure no one will actually buy it but I get a % off if its on my registry, so why not? If someone buys it, even better :)
  • I put it on mine and people either ignored it or comments that it shouldn't be there.  It might be a good idea because of the % off, but then I ended up with 80% off because I decided to go through insurance.  Blue Choice.
  • I put "other" because my sister actually told me that she wants to buy me my pump. She had a very good experience BFing (and pumping when my nephew was first born and was in the NICU) and she told me a while ago that she plans to buy me my pump, which I definitely appreciate.

If she didn't get it for me, I probably would not put it on my registry... mostly because, though I know there is nothing taboo about BF, I still feel like what I do with my breasts is kind of a private thing and everyone in the world who views my registry does not need to know that I am planning to BF.  (I know, I know, it's not a big deal-- but at Xmas I got hounded with "are you planning to BF?!" questions from random distant relatives and it was really an awkward thing to me-- why do you care if I FF or BF?)

  • it's for the baby! i had one on my registry, then i found it on sale on amazon.com for about $50 bucks cheaper and ended up buying it myself.

i do feel weird putting creams and pads on there though....

  • Yes I did.  Breasts feed babies.  But even if someone didn't feel comfortable buying it or have that amount of money to drop on a gift, they may think to get you a gift card to help with the purchase of it since it is such a big ticket item.

  • I did....and my boss's wife bought it for me.  Wasn't expecting it, but figured I could use the completion coupon towards it.

  • I put mine on there but no other accessories.  I feel weird having everyone see which breast pads I'll be using.  More of a reminder, really, since we can get a 30% off discount at my DH's hospital!
  • at the very least so you can use your completion coupon on it

  • I was going to, but frankly I found that you can get them alot cheaper than people are going to be able to get them for you in the stores (and cheaper than you could get it with your registry completion code), by buying them on ebay, brand new in the box, still sealed (they go for around $200 that way).  I figured the chances of us getting it off the registry were so slim anyways, so I went ahead and got it.  Plus this way if I don't wind up using it for some wierd reason, I can just turn around and sell it for pretty much the same price!
