South Florida Babies

BPA

Before finding out I was preggo, I had always been meaning to discontinue the use of plastic water bottles, microwavable containers, etc.  So, I finally got around to it and bought all glass microwavable containers, a reusable stainless steel water bottle, etc.  However, I noticed that I also drink a lot of water from the office water cooler and was thinking that that plastic container must contain BPA as well.  I have been incredibly thirsty and just crave water all the time, but don't want to do any harm with BPA, does anyone know more on this topic, especially, with office water coolers?

Re: BPA

  • Should I just use the water fountains to refill my bottle?  They just gross me out b/c I know some of the kids put their mouths on it.

  • Honestly, I wouldn't get too crazy over it.  Many of us here had babies before the whole BPA controversy broke out and they are perfectly healthy. There are potential health hazzards everywhere you look.  it would be impossible to avoid all of them.

  • bpa is only an issue when heated.  The bpa is released when the plastic gets hot.  So you can store food in plastic containers but heat them back up on a plate.  FWIW, a lot of things now are bpa free.  I just bought a bunch of new glad ware containers and noticed that they are all now bpa free.

  • Andrea, thanks for the reassurance.  I think I'm getting a little paranoid over everything I eat, drink, do, etc.  Now, I understand why my mom worried about the silliest things.

Leanna, thanks for the fyi on Glad!
