Question for 2nd time moms?gifts for LO?

For those that are having another baby, are you getting a little gift for your older child(ren)? DD will only be 20 months, so she won't remember it, but I thought of getting her something special when the new baby comes. I don't really have any ideas though, maybe a doll??

I got a gift from my parents and grandparents when my little sister was born. I don't really remember is since I was only 3 but there are lots of pictures of me happily playing with my strawberry shortcake play kitchen while everyone oohed and aahed over the new baby.

I gave Olivia a barbie when she came to visit me in the hospital - she was excited to have a present to open.   It was also good for her to see that it wasn't all about the baby, but that we were paying attention to her too.    DH took her to the family room at the hospital (it had toys) to give her some one on one time, as well.   Before that I bought her a used doll accessorie set (it had a doll stroller, playpen, highchair, carseat) and she loved it.    She got to play mommy:)

edit:  I hadn't even thought about this time!   I'll have a gift ready for them to open at the hospital.  Natalie won't remember, but Olivia will.   I'm not sure what yet!

my sister gave her DD a gift while in hosp after she met the baby. It helped her feel special. It was a little pony doll.

OP- I think a nice doll would be sweet. Maybe like a bitty baby from american girl?

Im not a 2nd time mom but when there is a new baby in our family we always buy a little something for the older siblings too. It might only be a coloring book and crayons or a barbie or something but it gives them something to do and makes them feel special

Yes!  I'm not sure just what yet, but I want to get him a big brother gift for the day the baby comes home.  My parents and in-laws, along with my 2 sisters also said they want to get him something, so I think he'll be just fine

We won't be getting anything big because depending on when the baby is born, DS's birthday will be a few weeks before hand.  I am going to get him some small gifts over the next few months to give him if other people would happen to get the new baby a gift....hopefully he won't feel left out then because he would get a gift at the same time.

I'm planning on getting DS a bunch of little things like books and crayons that I can use as distractions when I need to do something with the baby.

ds#1  was just a little over 2 when DS#2 was born. His birthday and christmas were just a few weeks before so we saved some of his gifts to open then (I know sound slike we are cheapskates but he was so little). I gave it to him after the baby was born and told him his brother had gotten him a present. He happily left the hospital without crying thanks to those gifts.

We took DD to a Build a Bear store and let her pick out an animal, make it and dress it for her new brother or sister. While I was helping DD pick out the clothes, DH made another animal for DD from the future baby.

So... when the baby was born, DD1 was able to give the animal she made to her sister and DD2 gave one back It was cute and they both still love them.
