I am new to bfing as my baby is only 3 weeks old and I don't think I have the whole latch thing down yet. All of my friends, LC, and books, etc. tell me that all I need to do is simply 'flange the baby's lips'. That sounds great and I know what it means and what it should look like but no one tells you exactly HOW to do it. Any helpful info on how to 'flange' a baby's lips for a good latch?
Re: How to flange lips???
If it's looking like the baby's lower lip is tucked in, try pulling his or her chin down lightly with your finger (put your finger in the little divit between the lower lip and the chin bone...kwim?). This will help flip the lower lip out so it "flanged" better.
This is a good example - see how the baby's lower lip is flipped out?
