KLBJ just said that TSA is suspecting it was an "act of intentional violence". I really hope they are just saying that to cover all possible angles and that it is NOT true.
MSNBC said on their newscast (I'm hearing this 2nd person) that the pilot torched his own home this morning (there was a major fire at a home in NW Austin this morning).
A man called into KLBJ saying that he took his kids by the house fire (in scofield farms?) to show his kids the firemen working and that an elderly neighbor told the man to pray for the homeowner saying he was suicidal and owned a plane or something? I thought that sounded like a stretch so I didn't post it.. but hmm?

I saw the newscast. They are speculating that the plane crash and the house fire are related. The owner of the house has a plane that he flies out of Georgetown. Again, they are making it clear that it is only speculation at this point.

More from local news, I think it was KXAN I was watching: Mom and daughter in home when fire started, rescued. The husband is a software engineer and pilot who owns his own plane and flys out of Georgetown, TX, where the plane originated from. He is unaccounted for, said to be "unstable."

Oh no. I hope this isn't true. That's so sad.

The pilot is apparently linked to a domestic dispute this morning in which he apparently started his house on fire, drove to the RR Airport and flew over there and intentionally hit the building. This is speculation from Fox 7 though nothing has been confirmed.

That's what they are saying on the news. They just gave the same address.
I saw the smoke from that house fire this morning on my way to work! I was really confused when people started talking about a plane crash in the opposite direction, but now it makes sense.
A kid in my office says a friend of his was driving on 183 this morning, and saw the plane turn into the building to crash. (i.e., the plane did not seem out of control) Of course there are a ton of rumors right now, but people in my office have some news source that's saying an IRS office was targeted.
(CNN) -- The latest news as it comes in to CNN from the scene
of the crash of a small plane in Austin, Texas. (All times are ET, one
hour ahead of local Austin time.)
12:42 p.m.: The pilot
of the plane had set his house on fire beforehand, stole the plane and
crashed it intentionally, a federal official told CNN.
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
From CNN.com posted at 11:03:Cynthia Reed, who works in the building next to the one hit, told CNN she saw people who apparently were trapped. "They were hanging out the windows, screaming for help," she said.
I pray that this is not true and just someone looking for attention.
I actually know Cynthia Reed... she did my mortgage when I first moved to Austin and I kept hearing that Advantage Mortgage was in the building that was hit, so I've been thinking about her. I'm really glad to hear that she wasn't in the same building and even more so that she's OK. Thanks for posting that, austxgrl!
Holy crap. That's really close. That poor mom and daughter (if all the reports are right and they are connected). I can't imagine what happened before all of this. I hope they're ok.

That's terrible.
His wife and daughter were in the home when it caught fire and were able to escape.. this guy sounds like he was deeply troubled. I hope there are no deaths involved with the plane crash, and nobody seriously injured.

The news coverage of this stuff really bothers me. For one thing, the station I'm watching keeps referencing 9-11 and, I'm sorry, this is tragic, but it is not 9-11.
Second, when did it become okay to report speculation? There's a fire at a house in North Austin and the owner has a plane, and OF COURSE he must be the pilot that flew into the building. Shouldn't they have more info before they begin the rumor mongering? I mean, they're kind of smearing this guy's name before it's even been confirmed that he's the pilot.
Apparently my SIL works in the building next door. My brother just posted this on his FB page:
"Wife just called and said a plane crashed into the building next door to her office... explosion shook her building. Apparently the building that got hit was an FBI building... FBI is evacuating her building right now."
I believe the FBI is actually in the building next door.
This is all so bizarre and so scary. I just really hope they can tell us if everyone is OK. I know some people were injured, but I don't know how seriously.
Just reported that the wife & daughter weren't in the house fire. Wife & husband had a huge fight (neighbors, one of whom is the source, could hear it). Mom and daughter left & stayed at a hotel for the night. Came back to find their house on fire.

I'm so glad they weren't there, but still dealing with all of this will be just horrible. How sad.

Right after she said that, she told them that a glass company happened to be in the parking lot and had ladders tall enough to reach that floor. They got them out right away and were able to get the people out, thankfully. But that must have been sooo horrifying!! I can't even imagine.

I'm glad to hear that! I couldn't wrap my mind around the concept of him torching his house with his wife and daughter inside. Not that I can wrap my mind around any of this crap.. but still.
Its just horrible! My DH used to work by that building, up until last month. I can't imagine how scared everyone must be.

Speculation can be horrible, especially like in the case of the wrongly-reported Atlanta Olympic bomber whose life was ruined. But I know when I first heard of the speculation it was from a relative-by-marriage calling the radio station connecting dots between the housefire and the pilot. They did state that it wasn't official etc. and it was the first they had heard of a connection, although now it does seem to be the case. It is an interesting issue when things are so fluid.
on another note, that housefire had me worried this morning! Driving home from MDO this morning I saw the black smoke and did a mental run-through of my morning, making sure I didn't leave an iron or oven on. It really seemed to be coming from close to my house. I was so relieved when I got closer and realized it was on the other side of the freeway!
