Watching the news I saw that a man is trying to get this written on his vanity license plate. Without considering your own feelings on homosexuality do you think this should be permitted?
What's the problem? I could understand restricting someone who wanted to use truly vulgar language (C U next tuesday, fvkc, etc.), but otherwise why restrict what someone wants on their license plate?
I am totally fine with him being gay and truly cannot care less and do not think that it is a "bad" word that should be banned so I guess so...my only concern is depending on where he lives is tolerance and if it could risk his safety but I guess it is no more unsafe than having a rainbow on his car announcing it. So yes.

They denied the plate and the petition so the guys is suing.
For some reason though all of these replies were a hoot. What! Why? What are you talking about? Are you a homophobe gracenantho? This is crazy talk? Discrimination..never heard of it?
Everyone knows the gay is catching, so vanity plates should NOT be allowed. I mean, if you see that on a car, it would totally turn you gay!!!
Also: I don't think anyone was implying you were a closet homophobe, just expressing "why" b/c it's weird. Vanity plates have crazy stuff on them, so why not "I am gay." I saw one with "sexy b!tch" the other day. On a Chevy Cavalier w/ a spoiler. Rockin.

I in no way thought you were a homophobe or something. I still just don't get it. Maybe I am being obtuse...why did they deny it?
this is what I got from everyone's response.
And I agree w/ sbdc - it's hard to discuss, b/c it just seems ridiculous. If I knew the reasoning, I could see there being more debate/discussion about the validity of the reasoning.

i think it's stupid for the man to want it - because it might cause road rage, "hate crimes" etc --- but i don't think it should be illegal for him to have it- his choice - go for it. Gay is not a bad word - i see no reason the state should not allow it.
Re: I am Gay
I don't care.
I don't get what the "issue" would be...?
If the tool I saw driving a Bentley with the license plate 82KROI could get that on a vanity plate, I have no problem with this.
Can you translate this? It's been a long day, apparently.
Me with my littlest.
I don't get it either?? 82KROI?
Yes.
And I don't get the 80kroi or whatever it was either.
I love how coy everyone is in their answer. LOL

But what's obscene or offensive about it as a license plate?
As for "coy" responses,I think when you post something like this w/o your own opinion attached, grace, it invites that kind of response, doesn't it?

I meant to add mine in but then got totally distracted by dinner prep. Bad timing. I usually post my own 2 cents as a reply.
I just though there would be more dialogue versus curiosity as to why the question would be asked.
Oh, I see what you're saying. but I think most responses indicate that there's really no discussion to have. It's so inane that they denied him.

True.
