My dad's comment to me re: Unemployment

I called my dad this morning to see how he was making out with the snow. Usually he has Wednesdays off.

He said he had driven his wife and her friend into work and he is on-call. He is a pharmacist and she is a pharmacy tech for nursing home pharmacies.

I said, "I am surprised they had her [his wife] in."

His response: "Well, we all can't sit home collecting unemployment."

Is your dad often a jackass or is this unusual for him?

Both me and dh are are unemployment. I am going for my teaching certification and trying to find a teaching job for the fall. DH has been looking but it struggling with some health issues right now.

And, yes, he IS a jackass! In his eyes, we are "children".
