Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When to go to 3 8 oz bottles?

Maybe I just need to go with the flow.  We've recently given G 2 solid meals and 3 6 oz bottles and a smaller 4 oz bottle before bed.  She was at 4 6 oz bottles, but it seems like she's not eating a lot of her 4th bottle lately.  Today, she's had 2 8 oz bottles already, and breakfast.  I'm not sure if she's getting to the point where she's going to eat 8 oz bottles or if today is just a fluke.  I guess maybe I need to go with the flow and let her decide what she wants to eat.

When did your LOs go to 8 oz bottles? TIA!

  • Pedi said we can start moving that direction whenever we want now. I think they said right around 9 months was pretty normal to go to 3 8 oz bottles.

We use drop-ins and the generic liners do NOT hold 8 oz of formula as they claim. We bought the Playtex ones and they do. As soon as the generic liners are gone we'll move to 8 oz bottles--that's why we haven't done it yet. We probably would have around 8 or 8.5 months.

  • We started 8 oz bottles around 5 months (drinking 4/day + 2 solid meals). Pedi recommended dropping to 20-24 oz formula per day at her 6 month appt & increasing solids which is what we've been doing.

  • At 10 months we starting doing more solids, and dropped 1 bottle/day. So now he has 3/8oz bottles. Breakfast, Lunch, & Supper.

  • At about 6 months I went to 4 8 oz bottles per day....he is 7 months today and over the last week and a half he has weened himself off his before bed bottle, so he is getting 3 8 oz bottles, plus solids of course.
