Renting a Doppler

I've heard of renting a Doppler because they're better quality than buying one at walmart or target. What's a good website to rent from and what kind/brand is best to rent? I've heard of bellybeats.com, but was wondering if there was a better one?

Re: Renting a Doppler

  • My SIL used babybeat.com.  She loved it.  This is where I'm going to rent mine from.  I'm going to order it this week.

  • I've never heard of this before? You can rent one? Is everyone supposed to get one or is it optional or just for high risk pregnancies?
  • *preface* I know very little about Dopplers.

I've never heard of anyone doing this.

How often is it safe to use the Doppler? (Or is safety even an issue?)

  • We rented from storkradio.com with my first and they were great. The doppler was pretty much exactly like the one used by our doctor and the shipping to us and back to them when we were done was very easy as they provide you with everything you need. But I was just reading another post here that recomended the Sonotrax doppler to buy and if it works as well as the reviews say then it's the cheeper way to go! I'm going to research it a little more but I think it's worth it to have one that is ours. And when we aren't pg any more maybe I can rent it out to friends or something and make our money back. ;-) Either way, it's definately worth it to have the peace of mind. I had a mc with my first pregnancy and with out the doppler for my son I would have been a mess. It set my heart at ease and while I am not as worried with this pregnancy I still want a doppler!

edited to add: There is research that goes both ways as far as the safty of using a doppler too much. We limited our use to once a week just to be safe. :-)

  • Yes you can rent one, because the more expensive ones work better, but that way you don't have to pay so much to use it. It's optional if you want one , I just thought it would be fun to hear our little beans HB whenever we want! it's not through ur Dr.

  • I had two m/c before my youngest was born so I had a doppler with her the whole pregnancy.  It can be very hard to find the hb in early stages so you u have to be patient.  There are no risks for using it.  I used it daily if not twice a day.  It made me feel so much better.  It is definitely optional and I have even heard drs say people shouldn't get them because they will worry themselves if they aren't able to find hb.  I rented mine from bellybeats.  I had a digital which was very convenient but 45 a month was a little steep.  After 20 weeks I got a regular one.  A little harder because you have to figure out the bpm while trying to find it...can be a challenge.  I never had a problem finding hb after 11 weeks just takes patience.  I had a m/c in Oct. of  last year and am pregnant now.  I will probably rent a doppler in a couple weeks so it is here by 11 weeks.
  • I first heard about them here on the bump. I chose to rent one after a couple of really vivid miscarriage dreams. DH and I decided that if renting one would help give me peace of mind, it was worth the investment.

I rented mine from bellybeats.com for $45 a month. Heard the heartbeat for the first time on Thursday! It takes a while to find it, but when we did, it was TOTALLY worth the money. It was amazing....
