What was your pushing experience like? I pushed for 2 hrs with no pain meds! (not on purpose!) I thought I was going to die. I watch these shows on tv where these girls give a few pushes, no screaming and the baby is out! Wondering what I can do differently next time! Some dr.'s don't like you to have the epi for pushing.
Re: I'm curious-labor ?
I'm one of "those girls" - 20 minutes of pushing, epidural = no screaming, baby out. And I was in labor for 2 1/2 hours (going from when they started pitocin).
I would like to thank my father, for bringing the "child birthing hips" genetics to the table.
Pushed for 20 minutes with epi.
I don't think I did anything "special." I was exhausted though. I had been awake for 22 hours, in labor for 21, and hadn't eaten in 20.
I pushes for almost 3 hours with lots of pain meds. the nurse let me epidural wear out when i was 8cm, and they gave me 4 shots of it to get me numb again, then within seconds i was 10cm. I always swore i didn't want a cheerleader experience and wanted it to be quiet. But the nurse, dh and sister were all yelling and cheering - and it kept me calmer for some reason. In between pushing we were laughing and joking. I had a great time.
Funny thing happened, the nurse told dh to hold my leg up, and to set it down gently after the contraction because i couldn't feel it, after the first contraction he dropped my leg to hug my sister and it came crashing down on the table like a ton of bricks. We all started laughing hysterically.
My water broke @ 645 friday night.
Got to the hospital @ 9ish friday night.
Got started on Pitocin @ 5am Sat
Pushed twice and she was out @ 914am Sat
No screaming, talking, or anything. After my first push the nurse said "I think you could have her w/ your next contraction." That's all I needed to hear, I got my game face on and pushed and there she was.
I had no epi or any pain medication what so ever my entire/labor/push/recovery.
I consider myself lucky
had an epi, but they turned it way down/off when I started pushing. I pushed for 3.5 hours
nurses kept joking that "it's nothing like a baby story, is it?"
I pushed for 3 hours and they had to use the vacuum on his little head. Plus I got an episotomy. When he wasn't out after all that, the doctor said "You have two more contractions to push through and then I'm giving you a c-section." That was apparently all the motivation I needed -- pushed him out on the second one.
Night. Mare. Thank GOD for my epidural. I could feel the contractions even with it in and flowing strong.
I should note that I have the very definition of child-bearing hips, too. Guess I just don't (or didn't) have a child-bearing vadge.
W/ DD1 I pushed 50 mins
DD2 I pushed 15 mins.
It was HARD work. I can't imagine pushing for 2 hours!! I had an epi both times, though w/ DD1 I couldn't feel a single thing. DD2 I felt more, but not horrible pain. I got the epi late with her (8.5 cm) and those contractions (w/ pitocin) were so horrible, I don't know if I could have pushed through them w/out an epi!

Day Three
I pushed for just under an hour. I remember thinking "OMG this is so surreal"... I am going to push my baby out now.
The nurse thought it was going to be a while longer so she didn't call the doctor in... I was determined to get him out as quickly as possible.
When he was crowning I remember getting really calm and just trying to take it all in and just being in complete and utter amazement about what was happening.
No meds.
My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
I pushed for an hour and a half, no pain meds. It hurt worse than I could have imagined and felt impossible but I finally got him out! I began pushing squatting but it put too much pressure down there so then I did hands and knees and finally side lying with my leg in the air (and kept getting charley horses on top of all the other pain- OUCH)

well, my labor over all went pretty smoothly. my water started breaking around 4:30 a.m., and i had him at 11:09 a.m.
the contractions were so close together that i didn't even get a break, so i got the epidural.
i pushed for about 50 minutes. at the end, he wouldn't come down any further, so she gave me an episiotomy, and he came the next push. i tore pretty badly though - 2nd degree. i could feel the pain from pushing but not the contractions, so i just pushed whenever they told me i was having a contraction. it worked pretty well.
I pushed for almost 4 hours. I had an epidural but it was turned down for pushing. I thought my body was literally going to explode. And he did rip me up pretty good when he came out.
