You can try but bubble baths pose an increased risk for UTIs in girls and eczema, dry skin for all children so be cautious. We just don't do them. Both kids developed eczema after I started this.

Interesting. Did you use something other than J&J?
I love J&J. mmmm yummy smells. You can do a bubble bath anytime.
Actually only certain products "mr bubble" have irritants to the urethra, but there's never been a direct link from bubble baths to UTI's. But adding a little soap to the bath is no biggie.
I know bubble baths are bad/frowned on for babies, but I wonder about doing them for toddlers. I just didn't know if it was still a bad idea. Thanks Jar - we have dry skin now anyway, don't want to excacerbate it.
Of all the things I do on a daily basis that potentially endanger my kids life, a bubble bath is pretty low on the list. So, yes, I give them. AND I use the ultra-toxic baby killing J&J. At least she'll enjoy a fun bath in her last days.

She can spend her last days with jo, picking crusty patches of toxic skin off one another. That's comforting no?
"Bacteria and bubbles can irritate the glistening lining of the urethra...Irritation of the urethra triggers frequent urination as part of the
body?s effort to cleanse and protect itself. This is especially
important, because the burning sensation caused by urine flowing over
inflamed tissue might otherwise lead children to ?hold it in? until the
last possible moment ? or beyond.:
I have added soap to the bath water ever since we switched to the big tub at 7 months. Generally we use Burts Bees bubble bath but I have used evil J&J before too. LOL at the things we all stress about.

Sophie will hang w/ your crusty kids. I had no clue that this was even a concern. I always use a little J&J of some kind for bubbles unless she has a diaper rash. Than I use nothing. Oh the things I learn on the Bump.

We use California Baby bubble bath and she loves it and it is about $20, but totally safe! Smells great and comes with blowers to blow bubbles during tubby time too!

The way I see it is that soap gets in the water when I rinse my kid. What's the difference if she sits in soapy water that I purposely prepared as such vs. sitting in soapy water from getting washed? Either way, she's doomed.
She gets rinsed off with clear water before she gets out.
i add some of her hair/body wash by aveeno to every bath. i figure it can't be that bad, if that is what i am using to wash her with anyway. she loves her "buboos."

lol seriously.
i have been putting bedtime j&j in dd's bath since forever and she doesn't have dry skin, eczema, utis, or anything else.
i have *heard* that actual bubble bath made for adults is an irritant, so I just do the j&j.

It's so funny you say this because just recently my mom and I were talking about all the UTI's I had as a child and she always thought it was from the Mr Bubble!
We do. I don't use J&J b/c it seems to dry DD's skin out. We like Aveeno and Burt's Bees stuff best. It's just a preference though. We haven't had any issues.

Re: when can you give bubble baths?

I use anything BUT J&J. Rates very high on the toxicity scale. Not something I would put on my kids skin. FWIW I get J&J stuff free and toss it all.

Add Mia to the bunch then. J&J is all we use too.
lol at this whole thread.

Well, we definitely are the exception to the rule in my house.
I've been giving Samantha bubble baths with J&J since around 4 months old. No UTIs and she has the softest skin I've ever seen.
guess we got lucky.
We should have a big J&J SLUMBER PARTY!
All the good luck you have been having sent the UTI issues and eczema my way, thanks twatwaffles.
The eczema has been a b!!tch to clear up.
