Technically the correct pronunciation is Lu-sha like the island St. Lucia. and that is how a friend of mine pronounces it, so I automatically go with that pronunciation.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I think a correct pronunciation would be based on where you're from. A person from Latin America might say Lu-see-ah, but one from Italy might say Lu-chee-ah. So, you might get all sorts. IMO though it's a pretty name no matter how it's pronounced.

I think Loo-sha. If you want it pronounced the Italian way( Loo-Chee-ya), just be prepared to correct people.
FWIW : This will happen with almost any name you pick. Oldest DD is Brianna (pronounced Bree-Ann-Uh). She has been called Bree-On-Uh and Bry-Ann-Uh. I don't know which is correct and we didn't pick it..birth mother did but she pronounced Bre-Ann-Uh and we stuck with that.

"And can it be that in a world so full and busy, the loss of one weak creature makes a void in any heart, so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of vast eternity can fill it up." - Charles Dickens
I have a cousin with this name and they pronounce it Loo-chee-ya, but they call her Lucy most of the time. I don' think it's been a big problem for them (she's 7).
Yes, it depends what culture it's from. I really, really wanted to name either of my daughters that, pronounced the Italian way (that's my great-grandmother's name) - Lu-CHEE-a.
But, hubby doesn't like it.
Everyone I mentioned it to loved that pronunciation. Yes, you were correct people for her whole life, but my name has always been butchered, and I survived.
I know two people with daughters with that name. One pronounces it Lu-sha, and the other Lu-cha. I say do Lu-CHEE-a, since I can't.
I am LOLing at "The correct way" correct for whom? Certainly not the Swedish or anyone of Latin heritage. You must be related to my Italian-centered ILs.
My daughter is LOO-sha. She has it mispronounced ALL the time, but I assure you, several million people in Northern Europe would call it the correct way.
FWIW, this name has more than one pronunciation. Loo-see-ya is the Spanish pronunciation. It is my niece's name. She uses the Loo-see-ya pronunciation. This would be my first choice, as I speak Spanish.

Ditto.
I agree with this. I think most people in the U.S. can adjust to any of these pronunciations, so as long as you politely correct people who assume one of the different ones, you're fine.
my 21-month old is Lucia. we pronounce it Loo-see-a. We call her Lulu or Lucy for short. Though when we go places (ie dr office) it does get pronounced Loo-sha often and sometimes Loo-chee-a. Since we had her i know of 2 other Lucia's that pronounce it as Loo-see-a as well.
It would depend on where in the world I was. If I was in Italy I'd go for Lu-chee-a (or if your LM was Italian), but if I was in the US I'd probably go for Lucy-a. I wouldn't have thought of Loosha- but I guess there is a St. Lucia, right?
I guess it would depend on if you were pronouncing it like St. Lucia, in which case it would be Loo-sha; or if you were using the Spanish pronunciation, which is Loo-cee-a. The only girls I know with this name pronounce it the second way!

Yeah, I would say "Loo-see-ya" too.
I know an eleven year old girl with this name. The family has Italian heritage and she is Loo-chee-ya.
Love it!

Also did St. Lucia day as a kid with my Swedish grandmother so this is the pronunciation I thought of.

i know that the name is properly pronounced loo-CHEE-uh, but i know a LOO-shuh, so i automatically go to that in my head.
i think this is a beautiful name, though, and once people are corrected once, they'll get it.

Loo-sha like St. Lucia
ETA: FWIW, this is the "correct" pronunciation in the Swedish culture and I'm Swedish so your pronunciation is wrong
