When did you introduce avocado to LOs?

I never gave Max avocado until he was at least 2...Not for any particular reason other than I didn't think of it.  If you have fed your LOs avocado, when did you introduce it?  Also, did you mash it up and spoon feed it or did you do a small dice as a finger food?
Dx with severe endometriosis. DS#1 conceived with Met and TI. TTC#2 for 2.5 yrs. Dx 2nd IF. 4 clomid cycles, 2 IUIs, Finally IVF#1 w/ICSI worked for us! twins born 35w3d. Unexpected total hysterectomy 6/11. Now on the HRT train.

Re: When did you introduce avocado to LOs?

  • It was our 3rd food, after cereal and bananas.  So around 5 months when we started solids?

I used to thin it down with formula, now I just puree it.  I can see it as a finger food, except I'm too lazy to dice it.  When I get sushi, Harry and Alex eat all the avocados in my rolls  they LOVE it!  (I just fish it out and feed it to them, taking caution not to give them any that were near shellfish).

Now we do it as finger food but it was one of the 1st things we tried when we were ready to move beyond cereals.  Per www.wholesomebabyfood.com, avocado is perfectly fine as a stage 1 / 6mo food.  The other benefit is that it's quick and easy to mash w/o a food processor.  :)

  • They started eating it mashed at 4 months and diced around 9 months. They still eat it daily!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • It was the 2nd or 3rd food we introduced... around 6 months.

  • I could live off of avocado alone. I was sad when my kids spit it out at me.

I gave it to them pureed plain and pureed with banana. The banana went over better than the plain. I haven't given it to them as a finger food yet. It's on the list.

  • It was the 1st food we gave them at 6 months. I mashed it up and thinned it out a little with some breast milk. My girls loved it. I'm planning on giving it to them cut into chunks once they are a little older.

  • Mashed at 6 months (when we introduced solids) and cubed at 9 months.

They didn't like it- one of the few foods they didn't like.  A few weeks ago they kept eating the guacamole off my chips at a party...so I guess we can try it again!

This exactly. At about 8 months, I just cut them in long slices and let them nom on them.

  • I gave it to our girls when they were 8 1/2 months old.  I just spooned it out in little bite size portions and let them mash it in their mouth.

I think it was our first food after cereal.  So easy to prepare.  Just mash and serve.

I'm so glad they like it b/c it's one of the protein rich foods they still consistently like.
