Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I chose to switch peds and I am pissed about it!

I took DD into ped 2 weeks ago and they said she had sinus and early ear infection, did a RSV test and came back neg.  They gave us antibiotic and sent us on our way.  A week later we were in E.R. because she was wheezing something terrible.  They diagnosed her with RSV and bronchitis.  I have a "Momma" feeling that the first pediatrician just didn't catch this so I decided to switch to someone I feel more comfortable with knowing they will diagnose her correctly. Anyone else have issues?

  • Why are you pissed that you chose to switch pedis?

We chose to switch pedis early on, and are glad we did.

  • I switched Pedi's at 6 months b/c my old doctor was too much.

She sent him to the ER at 2 weeks b/c he was breathing "funny", and ordered and EKG and chest X-Ray.

She did a hearing test at 4 months, for no reason other than to have something to bill insurance for.  She was a piece of ***.

I think she means that she chose to switch pedis and is pissed off at the original pedi.

We haven't switched because I love her pedi but we barely see him.  He only works one saturday a month and we don't normally go during the week.

  • I am not upset that I switched.  It was the best thing for us, just upset about the old doctor not getting her stuff right.
  • I think i'm missing something...are you pissed because she didn't diagnose your baby with RSV?  She had a negative test result...Do you think the baby was wheezing and she didn't hear it?

If they tested your LO for RSV and it was negative but then a week later it was positive I am not sure why you are so upset.  Your LO didn't have it when tested and later developed it.  The antibiotic wouldn't have prevented her from getting it, as RSV is a viral infection.

Doesn't sound like a misdiagnosis to me, but that her immune system was down due to the ear infection and sinus infection and she, unfortunately, caught RSV after the first test.

It is a very sensitive test.  When Lily was diagnosed, the nurse actually came in and told us it was negative but at the very.last.second it turned positive.  We caught it at the very beginning so, again, it sounds like when your LO was tested, she was negative and subsequently caught this nasty virus.

3/22/09 - Lily Grace, born at 33 weeks, 2 days
    9/12/14 - M/C @ 7 weeks, 1 day (ectopic)

  • Sounds like the Pedi did all the recommended testing and covered your child for a bacterial infection.  Doctors cannot prevent viral infections nor can they predict them.  This post is just strange.
