TTC After a Loss

Did you have followup u/s after d&c or did you not?

I did not.  And I heard that a friend did.  I was just wondering if this is common.  I also wonder if it is common to have scar tissue after the d&c that would prevent pregnancy?

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

  • No I did not and my doc said scar tissue was incredibly uncommon.

  • I did not have an u/s after my d&c in April.  I went to an RE in Aug and during the diagnostic testing, which included an u/s, they found scar tissue.  It is not common, but it is a risk of the d&c.  I am bummed that I didn't have an u/s after the d&c b/c I essentially wasted 4 months by not knowing about the scar tissue (had to have a hysteroscopy to remove it).  If you're concerned, ask your OB or RE for an u/s just to be sure.  But again, it's pretty rare.
  • I did not, just a follow up in office with a quick internal to check for infection. Scar tissue is not common, but as Juma said, it can happen.
  • No, I didn't have an u/s.  I wish I hadn't even bothered with the fu appointment because my doctor was an azz. I don't think that scar tissue is very common.

  • I didn't even have a f/u appt for 6 weeks after my D&C - I thought this was weird, but that's what the OB said to do.  So no beta checks or u/s at all.

  • I just want to add that I've been on this board for almost 10 months and I am the only active poster w/ the scar tissue thing.  It is incredibly rare.  There was one girl who was here before I got here who also had it, but she is on PgAL now and I think due very soon :)
  • I had an ultasound after my D&C but I also had some complications.  At the risk of TMI I was passing clots bigger than the palm of my hand and they wanted to make sure there was retained tissue.

If it hadn't been for that, there wouldn't have been another ultrasound.

  • I had a follow up 2 weeks after, yes. But no u/s, just a regular exam. I was told not to worry about the scar tissue being an issue.
  • I didn't have an u/s after my D&C.  Their course of action was to take a HPT, if positive, then have a blood draw, and depending on the HCG level, then they'd decide is a u/s was needed.

  • No U/S, just an exam and follow-up bloodwork until my beta levels went down below 5.

And, I am sorry jumagirl, but thanks for relating that factoid about the scarring.  I have worried about this, esp since I had another early loss after the D&C.  I am glad they got it cleared up for you.

  • I did, but only because I was still cramping a week later.  There was some tissue that had not been removed, and she gave me a methergine (sp?) script to induce heavy cramping to get the rest of it.  I then had another f/u u/s 2 days later to made sure the tissue had been expelled (and it had).
