Hello!
I was diagnosed on Monday, 30 weeks with sweet, little boy.
All the drs said was we are going to send you to class... and left it at that! I asked some questions that I knew to ask about diet, baby health, my head was spinning. So, did not get referred until yesterday, and my appt is not for another week. To me this is real serious stuff, and them making me wait almost 2 weeks to be educated is very frustrating. I read about all of you testing your numbers, and hope that mind are where they need to be. From reading older posts I have learned so much and found a diet on-line that I am following until am told what to do.
Any advice? I feel like such a horrible mom already, for having GD, and then not being able to care for the baby b/c don't know what to do!
Thanks! You all are great!
Re: GD newbie- help!
welcome to the Sugar mamas!
join the Tuesday/Thursday check ins
and just watch your carbs. berries are also really good for stablizing sugar and ive been swearing by VANS waffles for breakfast.
you are NOT a horrible mother. i felt that way too at first. Your baby is just so sweet he gave you diabetes- forget cavities!
youll be just fine!
I completely understand the "horrible mom" feeling. I was only diagnosed a week ago so this is all very new to me too! It's not your fault though and after my class today I was better able to understand that.
I felt much better after my class but the ladies on this board are so helpful if you have questions in the mean time!
GL and if you have questions, ask!!
You've gotten off to a good start. This might fall on deaf ears because I felt the same at first (I basically cried hysterically all day when i was diagnosed), but you're not a horrible mother! You're doing everything you can to change your diet asap to help the baby. Would a horrible mother do that?
For what it's worth, my class was helpful, but I'm following almost the exact same diet now as I did when I researched GD before the class, so looking into carb intake and reading these boards is a HUGE step in the right direction. Good luck and I'm sure you'll find lots of support and help here!
Welcome to the club! I had to wait almost 2 weeks before seeing someone and so I put myself on a diet too. After meeting with the nutritionist (mine was pretty worthless, but others on here have had good ones), I haven't really changed much about my diet so I'm feeling pretty good that it was in check even before I started testing.
I know it's hard not to feel like you caused this, we've all been there. There are some positives though because this is the best I've felt all pregnancy. i'm eating better (and more often!) and exercising more. Plus, I've heard women say that it's easier to lose the baby weight post-partum, so that will be nice.
Thank you all! I really appreciate your support, I suppose every day will get easier. Glad to hear that I am on the right track. Hope you all are doing well!
Love the "Sugar Mamas" title! : )
Look forward to learning more from your posts!
