3rd Trimester

39 WEEKS and movement is slow

Ok Im trying no to be to anal about this but I just want to make sure that its normal for baby movement to slow down around this time.  I feel her moving here and there but not the normal kicks and stuff like before.  Yesterday she seemed kind of lazy and then last night she was going crazy.  Im sure things are fine but just wanted to put it on here to see if anyone is going through the same thing.

Re: 39 WEEKS and movement is slow

  • I mentioned the same thing to my OB yesterday at my 39 week appointment, and now I'm sitting here with LO in my arms. He wasn't moving as much as usual, so my OB sent me for a NST. The NP/radiologist weren't happy with what they saw, and rather than take any chances, I was sent right over to L&D. Trust your gut; movement does slow down, but if it doesn't seem like normal movement for you, go have it checked out. Good luck!

  • I was told at our lamaze class thats it's normal for the movement to slow down at that point. The baby is bigger than before and doesn't have as much room to move around is how she explained it.

If you really think it's out of the ordinary put your mind at ease & call your doctor.

  • I have days where he just isn't as active as others.
  • I find that LO's movement feels different at this point.  It is a more subtle rolling than hard kicks.  My doc said to lay down quietly after eating breakfast and dinner.  If I still feel 10 movements in an hour everything is okay.  I usually feel 10 within just a few minutes.  However, I don't notice it as much if I'm not looking for it because it feels different than earlier...probably because she doesn't have as much room.

As a pp said, when in doubt, call the doc.

  • Well I just ate a snack and I felt some movements here and there.  So she's in there moving but  if she doesn't move all that much like she use to.  Once I get off work Im gonna go home and lay down and count her movements.  If Im still worried Im gonna call.  But who do I call if my docs office is closed?  Is that a stupid ?
  • I just asked my OB about this on Monday and he said that baby is having longer periods of wake and sleep which is a good thing. He said if I don't feel anything for several hours (like more than 4-5) then to call. But as some PP have said, go with your gut.
  • I actually just called my dr. today because of this.  I hadn't noticed very much movement other than after meals for the past day and a half.  I was feeling movement so I didn' t panic about it.  When I called they asked me to come right in for a NST.  Everything turned out to be OK, but I would call if you are concerned at all.
