Infertility

Ladies with high FSH

I am really trying to understand the impact that this will have on any potential treatment....My first test was 11.25, second was 9.  I know this means my ovarian reserve isn't looking so hot. What has your experience been with high FSH and the treatments- did you try IUI or go straight to IVF? Also if you don't mind sharing your FSH level, how high is it?

Re: Ladies with high FSH

  • FSH 1- 11.9
    FSH 2- 8.2
    FSH 3 (Clomid Challenge)- 9.1

My doctor did a Clomid Challenge on me to see if I would even respond and I did. The RE said that we can do medicated cycles and didn't even mention IVF to me.  The other thing the doctor said is that because I am so young (29), my eggs are probably good even if there are fewer. We'll do 3 medicated cycles (specs in sig) and then look at any benefits to doing IUI. IVF was not even mentioned.

  • I am 37 (will be 38 in two weeks) and my FSH was 13.3.  DH has sperm count and motility issues.

Based on this, two different REs recommended we be aggressive and go straight to IVF.

I am starting my first IVF cycle right now.  I start my stims tomorrow night.

I do feel that time is not on my side.  My FSH is going to continue to get higher.  Many clinics will not recommend IVF is your FSH is over 15.

Given this, my RE gives us 25-50% chance of success.

    Hope this helps.

  • With high FSH it is best to be aggressive, and to make sure you are with a 'high FSH friendly' RE. Yes many REs will not consider you a candidate for IVF if your FSH is over 15, but there are alternative approaches to IVF that can be used even with very high FSH. If your doctor is negative about your chances, find a new RE!

I see that your E2 is high as well, but to be honest 9 and 11 really are not that bad. I would think there's lots of hope for you. GL!
