Yes, it was a dig. No, it wouldn't have bothered me because I would have probably just put him in his place (he's a huge jackass, clearly).  I'm sorry he upset you. Hopefully you can find a way to avoid him.

And if the dude was really so brilliant he would have come up with something better than that - there will be no such things as 'fax runners' by the time your child is grown.
