What formula do you supplement with?

My supply is getting low (sad) so I need to start thinking about supplementing with formula. But DS has had only BM from day 1, so I never even looked around at the different formulas. Which one(s) do you use when supplementing?

BTW - I'm doing everything I can to build my supply back up but I just want to have a backup plan just in case...

Re: What formula do you supplement with?

  • I have insufficient glandular tissue and used Parent's Choice with DHA/ARA  to supplement all of my kids.  There's no reason to go out and buy the most expensive formula you can find unless your baby has a medical reason or is sensitive to certain formulas.

  • Good luck on bringing your supply up!! Smile We use Enfamil Premium, that was the free sample we got from the hospital and he took it fine so we've stuck with it. I'm also probably a sucker but it says that it's the closest to BM so I feel a little better about having to give it to him.

  • We use Good Start because that's what the LC recommends and the only one her shop sells. She says the proteins are broken down more than other formulas so it's easier for them to digest.

That said, we also supplemented with Enfamil Premium in the hospital and she took that just fine.

  • Similac Advance, it's what the hospital gave us.  So far we haven't had to buy any, we're still working off of free samples.
  • Our pedi has us use Similac Advanced.

  • We use Similac Advance from free samples given to us by Pedi.Once they run out and I don't have coupons for it I plan to use the Up& Up brand from Target.  They have the same thing....very comparable and they compare it right on their cans.

  • Enfamil Premium.  We got freebies from the hospital and get them from our pedi too.  I don't like giving formula, but they gobble it right down so it always makes me feel like they like it and then I don't mind so much!
  • We supplement once at his dreamfeeding (10pm) and we use Enfamil Nutramingen. Its a little pricey but our pedi gives us free samples all the time. Its the lightest formula next to breastmilk.

We tried to switch to Gentlease but he wouldn't take it and was fussy all night so we switched back.

  • costco brand. on the container it compares to enfamil lipil and similac advance.
