Did you buy a cheaper secondary carseat?

We're buying LO a graco myride for my car, so we're not spending Britax money or anything  but I'm wondering if we should buy a second myride for my mom (she watches him 1 day a week and they dont leave the house every week) or go with something even cheaper.

Re: Did you buy a cheaper secondary carseat?

  • The biggest benefit to the different seats it the ease of getting them in and out and installation.  I think the britax is easiest for that, at least with my roundabout.  We have an evenflo for DH's car, since we rarely use it.  It is fine to install but more of a pita to get in and out.  I also think the britax cover quality is better, so if your going to use it everyday for years, better to get a better cover.  They are all about the same safety wise, so I would not worry about that.

I got a true fit for $77 dollars as our extra seat for DH's car, almost as cheap as a cosco.  If you watch, you can get a good seat at a good price, so that is what I would do.

  • I'd probably just put our seat in my mom's car for those weeks when she needs it.

  • We did. We had a Britax in my car and a Cosco Scenera ($50) in DH's car because he only picked up DD once a week and occasionally due to emergency. It didn't make sense to spend that much on a car seat for such little use. The down side was she still fits in her Britax but she outgrew her Scenera around 4, but we knew that would happen.

  • I would just trade cars with mom on the days she watches your DC.  Even if they don't "go" anywhere...she still needs a carseat in case of emergencies.
  • We buy the Costco Seneras for the girls' secondary carseats. We keep them in DH's car and for traveling and such.  The girls are only in DH's car maybe once a month or every few months.  We use that car for working so I take it on weekends when I'm working and DH takes it on weekdays when he's working.  The Seneras are rated just as safely as the Britaxes we have in my car and everything, but they are definitely not as comfy as the Britax.  Still for around town and once in a while, they're great and they're only $45 at Walmart.
  • Both sets of grandparents have Cosco Scenaras in their cars.

We see ILs at their place one week a year and have stopped flying with our car seat - too much hassle.

My parents come up once every 6-8 weeks and we drive in their car maybe once or twice when they are up.  When my parents stay with DD while we are out of town, they also have our larger car to drive (we drive my Beetle for OOT trips just the 2 of us)
