Adoption

Update on the adoption fair

It was so informative and I am so excited that we went. DH and I were able to speak to several agencies. We have pretty much ruled out international adoption due to the price and the difficulty in dealing with 2 governments. We were interested in adopting from Poland but we can't swing it.

We joined a local adoption support organization and they have lots of meetings and seminars and they can put you in touch with memebers who have used specific agencies so you can some of your own research.

We are so overwhelmed but thanks to this board and you ladies, we asked some really good questions...we even impressed one of the agencies with the stuff we asked Smile We are finding it hard to sort out what the different places charge for different things. We have kind of figured out it depends on the risk we are willing to take...one place charges 1/2 the fee up front and you get no refund if the BM changes her mind. It's kind of scary.

Anyway, if the newer ladies have access to an adoption fair, I highy recommend you attend. I feel like we are getting closer....baby steps but we are moving forward.

Re: Update on the adoption fair

  • Hey Ginger!!!!  Glad you got some good info!  I definitely feel your anxiety about putting 1/2 up front. That was one of the reasons we went with our agency - no risk. You don't pay the placement fee until you take your lo home. My friend used heart to heart and they recently changed their policy on that fee to be no risk as well.

Maybe it's worth looking into further?

  • Glad to hear it went well. It sounds like you went in pretty informed which I'm sure helped. The whole process can be overwelming, but like you said...baby steps, right?! We had considered an agency that required payment up front similar to what you mentioned, but decided to go with our current agency. We will pay the placement fee at placement. Good luck in your next step. :)
