Want to wean, but don't think I can..

My DD never took a bottle and still won't. I feel so trapped and don't know what to do. I am wanting to start weaning her but I really don't know how that would be possible. We have tried everything to get her to take a bottle. She just prefers to starve herself until I bf.

  • Do you have a stash saved up?  Or, are you looking to start formula?

  • Why do you want to wean? If she won't take a bottle just think of it this way- you're still giving her an amazing gift and it isn't much longer until she will take to sippy cups! :)
  • I have a stash, but I'd like to switch her to formula. I weaned my other DD about this time and want to plan to do the same with DD2, just a personal decision.

Gotcha- just wondering if it was a supply thing, etc. Have you tried the bottles that look like boobs? My DD only would take bottles, so I wish I had some advice for you!

  • I'm in the same situation. I've had some luck giving her a sippy (a Nuby sport sipper) By some luck I mean she gets like an ounce in her in 20 minutes, but hey it's progress! She no longer screams her fool head off at the sight of a cup or bottle.

Ditto that exactly. I tried a Nuby sippy today and she played with it for like 20 minutes and I think got like an ounce. She by no means looks at that for nutrition. What to do, what to do??

  • Will she take a bottle for anyone else?  In the beginning of giving Mady any sort of bottle I had to leave the room!
  • Keep trying! If you find a fast fix let me know!

We see the pedi again in a few weeks. I'm betting she'll send us to the specialist we saw for DS because my kids are small. I'll gladly send you any tips and tricks they have for me to try!

Here are a few others I've tried you might have luck with:

A straw cup, or just a straw and you drip it into her mouth until she learns to suck (this was just a mess, she kept grabbing it and thought it was fun)

A "real" cup (a sippy with the curved lip and unplugged the valve)  Or an actual cup.

A medicine dropper - we tried it once, she cried and gagged and everything we'd gotten in came back up. And i can NOT see this as an effective way of feeding... I mean i DO have other things to do with my day.

Mix some juice in with the milk to sweeten it.
