Stuck!

I don't post on this board very much, but I need some help trying to potty train DD. She'll be 2 1/2 in February, and I'm expecting a baby in May. Ideally, she would be toilet trained by the time the baby gets here, but at this rate, I just don't see that happening.
Here's the 411:

  • She tells me after she pees or poops
  • She tells me when she wants to get a diaper change
  • She's interested in the potty...somewhat
  • She will only sit on the potty chair for 5 minutes or so, then get bored and want to leave.  I try reading to her during potty time, but that doesn't work.

Someone please help me!! Give me some ideas of how to encourage her to want to use the potty and be a big girl.

Re: Stuck!

  • have you tried letting her run around with no diaper on and see what happens?  she will obviously have accidents but she will eventually realize and hopefully make the connection between the accidents and going to the potty.
  • Loading the player...
  • DD was most successful peeing in the potty in the beginning right after waking from night/nap.

I haven't tried this yet because when I get her undressed, she says that she's cold and wants a blanket. I know my house isn't cold, but she still might be chilly.  Maybe I'll crank up the heater for a while during the day and see what happens.

    Thank you ladies!

Carson always wants a "comfy shirt" on.

maybe try a long sleeve shirt and socks so she doesn't feel so naked.

  • Bailey wears "big girl panties" that she picked out and a long sleeve shirt or a night gown (no bottoms). If she has on a diaper, she will just go in it. But if she has on panties, she goes in the potty. I ask a few times an hour if she has to go and eventually she tells me yes. If it's been awhile and she hasn't gone I'll tell her I have to go and have her sit on the potty too and we go together. It seems like it just took her the first time (we'd been practicing sitting on the potty for months before she actually went) to realize how to go on the potty. Since then she's done really well with pee. Now poop is a whole other story! GL!

BTW, I love the name for your son. My baby is a Chase too, although it's his first name!
