A Question about Lotion

At what age did you start putting lotion on LO's skin? My baby's skin looks so dry and itchy and I would love to put some lotion on her. DH thinks she is too young, but I figure as long as it's baby lotion it shouldn't be an issue. I'll be using the Aveeno lotion. Both DH and I have really dry skin and so it's not surprising that LO is following in our footsteps.

Re: A Question about Lotion

  • I was told it was fine to use a little from time to time, but something like vaseline or aquaphor would be a lot more effective. Sure they'll be greasy but it'll really help to keep in the moisture from their skin. That's what our pedi recommended.

  • Use aquaphor, my sister is a NICU nurse and says they put a light layer of aquaphor on the babies
  • My pedi also rec the aquaphor for severe dry skin. I have been using the standard pink Johnson and Johnson baby lotion for a week now, his poor hands were so dry and cracked and after a few days of that it looks so much better!
  • My pedi said that in her experience J & J baby stuff tends to dry out skin more. She rec'd the Aveeno baby line. We've been using lotion on him since his first real bath.
  • our pedi also recs aquaphor and is not too fond of reg baby lotion
  • We started using Burt's Bees baby lotion after bathtime once her skin stopped peeling at about 3 weeks.  She's always so soft and it smells so good I've been using it for myself too!!

  • We started when DD starting having real baths, so around 2 weeks. I initially used J&J products and DD seemed to still have dry skin. About a month ago, we started using the Aveeno Baby body wash and lotion and its been wonderful. All of DDs dry spots have cleared up and her skin is so soft.
