12 weeks too early to buy cribs?

I'm going to Ikea on Sunday with my sister.  I was going to look at the gulliver crib and make sure that I like it in person.  My DH said I should just get them, since Ikea is 2.5 hours away.  I'm a little nervous to buy them so early, god forbid something happens. (My NT scan is Monday of course!)

We live in Ohio, so I'm afraid the weather will get too bad for January and February, and by then I will be 20 weeks, and I won't feel comfortable going that far from home.

Should I just get them?  I suppose I could always send my DH to get them in a few months too, although I would hate to make him drive all that way alone.

Re: 12 weeks too early to buy cribs?

  • well, I'm paranoid, so I won't be getting them for another month. My parents live near an IKEA and they're going to get the cribs for us and bring them up next time they visit, prob in February. Maybe your husband could take a friend along in a couple of months?

  • I got mine at 12 weeks.  I couldn't pass up the sale.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I'm paranoid too, that's why I'm so hesitant.  I guess I just also don't want to spend the extra gas money either.  I think Ikea gives you 60 days to return if I needed to.  I hate being so negative, I'm just trying to be cautious. I should probably wait until after my NT scan though.

  • We're going to buy 2 gullivers on Sunday!

I used to make a  lot of decisions based on what-if's and worse possible scenarios but now I try to do the opposite.  I'm keeping a positive attitude and the belief that everything will work out....

  • I'm almost 16 weeks and we are ordering ours today. It's going to take 18 weeks to get here, which is rediculous, but I love the set we picked out!

That's a good attitude.  I'm an eternal pessimist so it's hard.

  • Well, not to be morbid, but I would buy them, with the understanding that you could end up, god forbid, having an extra one. I have had a few scares throughout my pregnancy, and I bought 2 cribs a few months ago, with that thought in mind. Anyway, having a positive attitude and buying them now with the belief that everything will be fine is the right thing to do ;)
  • I don't think you are being morbid, I know what you are saying.  I hate to even think like this, but I want to be smart.

I'm just going to get them I think.

  • We're buying the IKEA Gullivers too :)  IKEA's only 45 minutes from us, so we're not buying them this week, but one thought we had was to buy them but not set them up just yet...  We're buying their dressers tomorrow though, and DH is stage 1 vacating his home office today to free up the nursery.  Just think positive!! :)  I know it's hard, you'll feel a lot better after you see them bouncing around at your NT!!
