Babies: 3 - 6 Months

how long??

we are transitioning our 4mth old dd into her crib tonight and she has been crying for an hour! How long do I let her CIO??? I am not sure that I can let her do it much longer???

Re: how long??

  • It was a tough transition for us at about 2 months. I slept on the floor by the crib for a few nights b/c LO would wake up all.the.time. I didn't do cio b/c he was too young. But when I have done cio at 5 months, I've been following Heathy Sleep Habits. Hth!

  • Please tell me you haven't been letting her CIO for the entire hour. Please.

At four months old she's probably just starting to learn to self-soothe. Right now all she knows is that she's alone and upset, and no one is helping her. If you want to sleep train her, you NEED to read up on it, don't just randomly let her scream until she passes out from sheer exhaustion.

  • we kept checking in on her the entire time and tried soothing her. Changed her diaper twice, held her for just a little bit, rubbed her back and put her back down. Turned on her seahorse and her little lamb and she finally fell asleep after 2hrs. We talked to the doctor today at her appt. about what was best to do. I am not a fan of CIO but we have to get her to sleep on her own somehow. She will only sleep on me, not in her bouncer, her boppy, swing, anything, even for naps. So I am stuck on the couch all day either nursing her or with her napping on me. She is on me in someway, shape or form 21-23hrs of the day. She doesn't want her daddy anymore. I love Abby dearly and have co-slept with her since birth, but she has got to be transitioned over to her own room for my sanity and her safety as well.
  • Have you tried getting her used to her crib for naps first? It may be easier on you because you will actually be awake to go in and soothe her if she cries.
