2nd Trimester

I passed a kidney stone over the weekend....

And let me tell you, it was the most PAINFUL thing I have ever lived through to talk about!!!  I went to the ER on Friday & Saturday night, then went to Urgent Care on Sunday. After doing that without pain meds, I feel much more at ease with the pain of our up-coming natural childbirth!

I have to see a doc tomorrow to make sure I don't have any other kidney stones. And lord I hope I don't, because while pregnant, all they can do for you is give you some pain meds and send you on your way!   ):

Re: I passed a kidney stone over the weekend....

  • I am sorry you had a stone!  My sister has passed some in the past and my dad has had them every couple years since I was 12.  Apparently the pain is worse than childbirth so if you got through this you will have no problem with having baby!

I hope for your sake it was only one small and not one big that broke up into smaller bits!

  • I feel for you!  My husband, as well as my mom's whole side of the family get them, and they're terrible!  I can't imagine doing it at all, let alone while pregnant!  I hope you passed the only one!  Good luck!!

  • One of my close friends passed a kidney stone about 6 months after her son was born and said it was way worse than childbirth.  I know that giving birth and general pain tolerance will be different for everyone, but she certainly made me fear kidney stones.
  • Ouch!!! My husband gets those and I know from his experience, how painful they are. I'm sorry you went through that and hopefully you don't have anymore!!

    Sorry!

  • I've had kidney stones in the past and let me tell you, they were the most pain I'd ever went though. I gave birth to our son at 25 weeks without drugs and that wasn't even close to the kidney stone pain!  But they had to use some sonic wave thing to break up large ones I had to managable pieces. But.... I wasn't pregnant at the time so I'm hoping that was a one time thing for you and that you won't have to go through that without good drugs. The morphene they gave me didn't touch the pain, they had to give me really strong meds that were wonderful, but I'm sure not to good while you are pregnant. Good luck!

  • This was me last weekend...but I dont think I passed it yet...they sent me home after 2 days on meds and hopefully it will pass...the pain was the worst adn I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy...Glad you are feeling better I know your pain!
  • You poor thing.  I've passed stones in the past, and I've surgery to remove them as well.  It is incredibly, incredibly painful.  I really think childbirth was less horrendous.

Drink lots of fluids and take good care of yourself!  Hopefully this was a one time thing.

  • I have heard that pasing a kidney stone is way more painful than having a baby.  I have several friends who had them after they had already had a few kids and they all said it was more painful.  So you're all set.

  • Ugg, that doesn't sound like a fun weekend at all! :(
  • I had one at 11 weeks.  It was awful!  I thought I was having a third miscarriage.  Drink plenty of fluids, rest and watch your calcuim intake, that could be the cause.
