Anyone know how they work? Do I need to get a safety deposit box? Are they like cash? Like once you lose them, they are gone? Is it not safe to just keep them in your house?
I think you do have to find a safe place to keep them because if I remember correctly, you take the actual bond to the bank to cash them in. I remember getting bonds for Christmas from my parents and they always took them and put them in a safety deposit box.
I make a contribution to Canada Savings Bonds through my work. Money comes off each pay and goes towards it. I don't actually have a piece of paper, and I can withdraw it whenever I want. My husband also does it through his work.
they have them online now... I'm in the middle of cashing some in for school that my dad bought for me over the years. Half are paper certificates which he's kept in a safe, the rest are online.
