I'm going out to dinner with coworkers tonight. None of them know that I'm pg. Would you do only cooked sushi rolls? Just say, women in Japan eat sushi while pg so any kind is fine? I would love a good spicy tuna roll.

Re: What are your thoughts on sushi while pg?
Do your coworkers know that you love sushi?
Me, personally, I would stick to California rolls or the like, or order a cooked entree (if the restaurant serves non-sushi items).
I did/ate a lot of things during my 1st pg that I'm just not comfortable doing with this pg, I think because I miscarried this summer.
I'd eat a little bit and mostly do cooked.
I figure the wasabi kills anything bad anyway LOL
I would have the spicy tuna or salmon, but I'm not one that follows "all" the rules...lol. Don't they have spicy tempura too? (that is sooooo good).
Now I want sushi!
LOL. That's true! :-)
My OB told me it was fine as long as it was a reputable place. He was actually more concerned with certain types of fish and where it was caught I(cooked or not). I had a whole list he gave me of certain areas that I should not eat any seafood that was caught there. I am sure that was pretty Boston/New England specific, though.
My OB was fine with it. He said most fish destined for the US is flash frozen, which kills any parasites. He just said to make sure I'm getting it at reputable places reduce the risk of food poisoning and to watch the mercury content. Unfortunately, ahi (my fave) can have a lot of mercury (depending on size/where caught), so I make it an occasional treat.
Also, our pediatrician (who's a spokesman for the AAP, so his recommendations are pretty conservative) said his wife craved sushi big time during her pregnancies and ate tons of it - he's not worried about me eating it at all.
ehhh, first pg - stayed away from raw stuff.
second pregnancy - not so much. there is a place we love and go to a lot... like for years... and none of us never got any food poisoning or anything... so as much as I tried to keep it "cooked only" I still took a roll or two from DH's plate here and there.
I loved it. Yum.
As long as you're getting it from a reputable place, I see no issues with it. Cooked or raw.
